Capitol Alert: Donnelly to appear of The Daily Show

A production crew for “The Daily Show” was spotted late this afternoon under the dome, taping a segment with GOP Assemblyman Tim Donnelly.

A staffer the Twin Peaks Republican would say only that the topic for the interview with the satirical newscast is “direct democracy.” It was unclear Wednesday when the segment would air.

This won’t be Donnelly’s first time appearing on a Comedy Central news show. The former minuteman leader’s effort to build a fence at the California-Mexico border was featured on “The Colbert Report” in 2006.

The theme of that segment? “The Difference Makers.”

iePolitics: Americans for America Tea Party

I attended tonight’s meeting of this new Tea Party group.  The guest speakers were Judy Morris, Paul Chabot, and Assemblyman Tim Donnelly.  There will be an Examiner article tomorrow.

Tim and I did an excellent job of ignoring one another (actually I have no clue if he even remembers me as we have only met a few times).  As much as I have had issues with Tim, I can honestly say I was impressed tonight.

Anyway, this Tea Party group seemed to consist of normal people and not all the whack jobs that usually attend high desert tea parties.  Here is a link:  Americans for America Tea Party

From A Reader: Team Donnelly hypocrisy continues and taxpayers pay

First, as reported on iePolitics earlier, Assemblyman Tim Donnelly’s mailed survey is taxpayer-paid franked mail produced, printed, and distributed at taxpayer expense. It is a common technique of politicians using public resources to build name identification.

What makes Tim Donnelly’s decision to implement “franked mail” all the more egregious is the fact that Donnelly campaigned as a tea party conservative Republican who wanted to rein in government spending.

iePolitics: A political mailer paid for by the Assembly

I received a political mailer today from Assemblyman Tim Donnelly.  Okay, he claimed it was a survey.  No it wasn’t.  It was an excuse to get his name out in front of voters without having to use his campaign funds.

I will scan it in tomorrow, but it was no different from any other political mailer—slick and expensive to print.  But who cares?  It was paid for by the taxpayers.

Assemblyman Tim Donnelly: Letter to President Obama

Tim Donnelly | District 59

An Open Letter to President Obama: Do Your Part to Protect California

For Immediate Release: May 31, 2011
Contact: Cassandra Joiner (916) 319-2059

May 25, 2011

Dear President Obama,

On Monday, the United States Supreme Court issued a ruling that will make California a more dangerous place for law-abiding residents to live. According to the Declaration of Independence, it is the purpose of government to secure the people’s right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. By ordering the State of California to release more than 33,000 state inmates back into our communities within the next 2 years, the Supreme Court is directly infringing on the rights of every Californian.

The court has ignored the fact that California has been working with a federal receiver to mitigate problems in our broken prison system. There is no doubt that California has more work to do, but the court’s decision is perilously unreasonable. In a dissenting opinion, Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. wrote that this decision is “gambling with the safety of the people of California,” and Justice Antonin Scalia stated in his dissent that this is “what is perhaps the most radical injunction issued by a court in our nation’s history,” and continued with saying, “terrible things are sure to happen as a consequence of this outrageous order.”

These opinions accurately contend that this decision is not under the Supreme Court’s jurisdiction, and furthermore that it would seriously endanger the State of California, our local communities, and our law abiding residents.

iePolitics: Donnelly recall?

This was on Facebook tonight:

People in the San Bernardino area, Orange County and Los Angelas: Our good friend Assemblyman Donnelly is in need of your help. Few men make it into office and are so effective as to have the SEIU immediately launch a recall effort and we know this is a man we can’t afford to lose. I beseech of you to support Mr Donnelly in every way possible. Working together we will build a better California, but we can ‘t do it wi

I think everyone knows Tim is not one of my favorite assemblymen, but if this is true, it is ridiculous and needs to be fought.  I’ve emailed one of his staffers to see what I can find out but in the meantime does anyone have any info?

Assemblyman Tim Donnelly: Donnelly Dispatch

Editor’s Note:  A while back I told Tim’s communications director to take me off of his mailing list and I would never, ever post anything positive about Tim.  And I have not received anything else since then until today when I received this.  I thought about it for a little while and decided to give Tim a second chance.  So, here it is for those who want to read what Tim is doing.  However, I won’t post anything else unless they send it to me regular email address.

WELcome

Fellow Patriots,

Thank you for your interest in the Donnelly Dispatch, a periodic newsletter to help me stay in touch with you about how I am fighting for you.

Since arriving in the Capitol, I have been busy working on legislation and promoting the ideas that matter to you.

I am proud to serve as your representative in the California State Assembly.

Godspeed,
Tim

Legislative Border Tour 2011

I was recently able to organize a group of Legislators to tour the California-Mexico Border. The eye-opening trip gave policymakers a chance to receive a briefing from Border Patrol, hear from residents of the border towns and see our border fence.

As many of you know, the Border is where I began the fight to protect citizens and restore respect for the rule of law in our state. It was especially meaningful to go back as your representative in the California State Assembly.

My hope is that trips like this will give my colleagues a comprehensive, firsthand view of the work that is being done and the of the effort still needed to secure our porous border.

I have introduced Assembly Bill 26 to help close border gaps by empowering law enforcement, ending sanctuary cities and protecting people who are trafficked accross the border to be exploited.

AB 26 will be heard in the Assembly Judiciary Committee on March 22nd.

Human Trafficking Informational Forum

California, with a porous international border, large harbors and airports, an accelerating population and large immigrant population, is uniquely positioned as a prime target for traffickers.

Therefore, it can play a vital role in ending this appalling crime and assault on human liberty.

I was grateful to be able to host an informational forum at the State Capitol in honor of National Human Trafficking Prevention Month and California Freedom from Slavery Day, as established by Assembly Concurrent Resolution 6.

Forced labor, coerced human smuggling and sexual slavery are direct attacks on freedom and we as the Legislature have a duty to protect its victims and bring justice to its perpetrators.

That is why I introduced this resolution, declaring February 1st as California Freedom from Slavery Day and why I have included a provision in my AB 26 to increase the penalty for smuggling individuals into the State for the purposes of sexual slavery.

If you are interested in more information, please visit the web links I have included in this newsletter.

Examiner.com: Inland lawmakers introduce resolution to bring awareness to human trafficking

Editor’s Note:  Once again, please click to read more.  Naomi will thank you.

The United States government estimates that up to 27 million persons worldwide are trafficked for the purpose of forced labor.  Close to one million of these victims are children who are forced into the sex trade while other victims work under guard in sweat shops, as domestic help, and in agricultural businesses.  Between 15,000 and 17,500 new victims are brought in the United Stateseach year, making the United Statesone of the top three destinations for human traffickers.

On October 18, 2010, former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law SB 657, the “California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010.  Beginning in January 2012, the law will require manufacturers and retailers in Californiato ensure their supply chains are free of slavery and forced labor and that their policy be posted on their websites.

To bring further attention to an issue that is now growing faster than drug and weapons smuggling, two Inland Empire Assemblymen, Mike Morrell (R-Rancho Cucamonga) and Tim Donnelly (R-Twin Peaks) introduced ACR6, a resolution declaring January as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.  ACR6 also names February 1 as “California’s Free from Slavery Day.”

iePolitics: Minuteman politician’s new ride made in Mexico

When I saw the comment on the Tim Donnelly post about his new state-paid Ford Fusion Hybrid being made in Mexico, I thought it was really too good to be true.  But a little research shows that our very own local Minuteman turned Assemblyman ordered a new vehicle at taxpayer expense that was MADE IN MEXICO.  Talk about a hypocrite.  So much for keeping Americans employed.  But then again, many of already knew he was all showboating and no substance.

iePolitics: The “challenged” candidate

This was in today’s Sun:

Between July 1 and Oct. 1, Donnelly, a former Minuteman who has said Republicans and Democrats alike have “sold us out,” took in $3,900 from former Republican lawmaker Jim Brulte, $7,800 in loans from current Republican lawmakers, nearly $2,000 from the 59th District Republican Central Committee and $1,000 from the Los Angeles County Lincoln Club.

In the same period, he received contributions from numerous corporations and political-action committees – $3,900 from tobacco giant Philip Morris, $3,900 from the California Real Estate PAC, $2,000 from Chevron – that contribute to both Democrats and Republicans in Sacramento.

“I have to go fight a fight to represent my district and the people of my district, but I also have to work and get along and get some things accomplished in Sacramento,” Donnelly said Wednesday. “The story should be that I have won over some allies – some business associations and some allies who want to support the fight I’m already fighting.

“And I’ve won support from some of my colleagues. I don’t think that’s something that says I’ve become an insider.”

SbGrapevine: Editorial: SB’s Tea Party Candidate

Tim Donnelly

www.sbgrapevine.com

Tim Donnelly presented the California Republican Party with one of very few surprises this past June.  A recent convert to the Republican Party, the self-described political outsider topped five other candidates, including two current or former councilmen, to earn the Republican nomination for the 59th Assembly District.  Normally, that would not be considered such a feat except that Donnelly had no previous political experience and was outspent by a wide margin.

The 59th Assembly District seat is currently held by Anthony Adams, who survived a well-financed recall effort, after voting to raise taxes last year.  Adams chose not to run for a third term.

Because Adams garnered so much state-wide attention with his pro-tax vote, highly rated Los Angeles-based radio station KFI 640 talk show hosts John and Ken took an active interest in this race, providing publicity to their candidate of choice, Tim Donnelly.  It was that support that took Donnelly from the bottom of the heap to eeking out a first-place finish with a 631-vote lead.

Donnelly is a businessman from the Twin Peaks area. His claim to fame is forming a successful Minuteman group that patrolled the California-Mexico border, garnering interest from national media groups.  It was during that period that he met John and Ken.

Fred Karger: Californian’s Against Hate

Editor’s Note:  This is a mailing list I ended up on I suspect due to the post I wrote about Chris Lancaster.  For the record, in addition to ET, Al Vogler, and Barb Stanton, Assembly District 59 candidates Chris Lancaster, Ken Hunter and Tim Donnelly all participated in one aspect or another of the very bigoted campaign against Anthony Riley and/or Corey Calaycay.  I’ve got the emails to prove it in case they try to deny it.  Anyway, I really don’t hate Mormons.  I have always had a lot of respect for them.  But I had a huge issue with both Chris Lancaster, who is a Mormon, and Tim Donnelly, who I don’t believe is Mormon, preaching God and then participating in such hateful work.

June 11, 2010                                                                                    619-592-2008

Statement by Fred Karger, founder of Californians Against Hate, re Guilty Finding by the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) Against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) Case #08-735

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today the FPPC, in an unprecedented ruling against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, found the Salt Lake City based Church guilty on 13 counts of late campaign reporting.  The Mormon Church was fined $5538 in an agreement worked out ending the 19 month long investigation.  The Church was the primary backer of California’s Proposition 8, which ended gay marriage in California two years ago.   The Mormon Church initially admitted to spending only $2078 to pass Prop 8.  When I filed my sworn complaint on November 13, 2008, they instantly attacked me. iePolitics: Mudslinging Versus Telling The Truth

Someone asked if revealing Don Kurth’s background isn’t mudslinging and therefore unethical.  This is how I would answer that question about any candidate.

Anyone who applies for a job goes through a background check.  The potential employer is allowed to review the results of that background check and determine based on those results if the applicant is suited to be hired.

In the case of an elected official, we the public, are the employers.  We have the right to know what is in all candidates’ backgrounds before we elect them to public office.  EVERYONE has skeletons in their closet and it is up to us to decide which skeletons we can live with in our elected representatives and which ones we cannot live with.

In the modern political world, well-financed candidates have checks (there is a term for it I’m still too sleepy to remember) run on themselves and their opponents to determine what can be used against them and to find ammunition against their opponents.  One of the biggest mistakes candidates make is to try to hide their deficiencies or lie about them when found out. iePolitics: The Race for the 59th Assembly District (Republican)

This is the other hotly contest Assembly District race and the more controversial of the two.  Its current officeholder is Assemblyman Anthony Adams who was the target of a failed recall effort.  There are six candidates vying for our votes.

This race is also “blessed” with a well financed RINO who, unlike Don Kurth, claims to be a Christian.  And this “Christian” (or Mormon in reality) along with his campaign consultant Chris Jones (sound familiar?), has conducted the most hate-filled, ugly campaign in San Bernardino County.  That candidate is, of course, Chris Lancaster, who has stooped to sending photographers to his opponents’ homes to film their young, underaged relatives, sponsoring an incredibly hateful video, and knowingly sending out lie-filled propaganda intended to induce and inspire bigotry and hatred among voters.  Needless to say, Lancaster is undeserving of your vote.

That leaves five other candidates:  Iver Bye, Ken Hunter, Tim Donnelly, Corey Calaycay and Anthony Riley. Continue reading

iePolitics: My First Tea Party – Part Two

Tuesday night I attended what is known as a “Home Tea Party” event in Highland.  It’s sort of like meshing the Tea Party concept with the Tupperware Party concept.  Instead of meeting out in public where attendees have to put up with harassment, they meet in someone’s home.  About 30 people attended this event.

I wasn’t sure what to expect at a Tea Party as mainstream media tends to characterize the participants as crazy, irrational, lunitics.  What I found was a group of people who truly love their country and want to see it returned to greatness.  These are not politicians but average people trying to get involved.  Most are political novices that are trying to learn the ropes.
