iePolitics: So do you believe it?

I’m referring to the article below about the Tea Party being less popular than atheists and Muslims.  I don’t.

Anyone who reads this blog knows I am not a big fan of the Tea Party and that is a direct result of Tim Donnelly and what I witnessed during his campaign.  A few other Tea Partiers, such as Barb Stanton, has led me to believe it is a party of flakes.

However, in my heart and in reality, I know most Tea Partiers are really good people who believe in causes similar to causes I believe in.  The actions of a few are not indicative of the movement as a whole.  And I think that sets me apart from the likes of a majority of the politicos I know.

Yahoo!: Survey’s surprising finding: tea party less popular than atheists and Muslims

By Rachel Rose Hartman | The Ticket – Wed, Aug 17, 2011

In an op-ed article in the New York Times, Robert D. Putnam, a professor of public policy at Harvard, and David E. Campbell, a political scientist at Notre Dame, say they have collected data indicating that the tea party is “less popular than much maligned groups like ‘atheists’ and ‘Muslims.’”

But Campbell says the tea party was really an afterthought in their research.

“We didn’t go into this study to look at the tea party,” Campbell said in an interview with The Ticket.

The professors were following up on research they conducted in 2006 and 2007 for their book “American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us” and decided to add the tea party and atheists to their list of survey queries. By going back to many of the same respondents, the professors gleaned several interesting facts about the tea party.

iePolitics: Then, of course, sometimes I wonder why I remain a Republican

Editor’s Note:  A few weeks ago I ran into the president of the local chapter of Republican Women Federated in the market.  We talked about the club for a little while and I explained why I am no longer a part of it.  Basically, I could not tolerate the Tea Party racist/bigoted influence.  It was getting ridiculous.  That’s not to say that even a majority of the ladies were racist or bigoted, but the loudest of the ladies were clearly racist and/or bigoted.

A couple of years ago the Chaffey Club made national news with the “Obama Bucks,” which featured a picture of Obama on a food stamp with fried chicken, Kool-aid and watermelon.  Although highly offensive, I do believe that some of the ladies in that age group had no clue about the racist aspect of the cartoon.  I know my mom would never have figured it out.  So, although I can’t excuse what happened then, I can at least feel it was possibly an honest mistake.

However, the latest Republican fiasco in Orange County is anything but an honest mistake.  This is flat out outrageous.  I heard about it on the radio earlier this evening but the description did not do the picture justice.  I, for one, am sick of the bigoted, racist Tea Party wackos.  I mean we have got the nut jobs handing out anti-Semitic literature at the SBGOP meetings, this crap at the OCGOP, Obama Bucks at RWF, High Desert Tea Partiers who more worried about rats than human dignity in Hesperia, and the same group acting like obnoxious hoodlums at Victorville City Council meetings.  Enough is enough.  Time for them to go away or go form a real party of their own dedicated to the wack jobs of the world.

SbGrapevine: Editorial: SB’s Tea Party Candidate

Tim Donnelly

www.sbgrapevine.com

Tim Donnelly presented the California Republican Party with one of very few surprises this past June.  A recent convert to the Republican Party, the self-described political outsider topped five other candidates, including two current or former councilmen, to earn the Republican nomination for the 59th Assembly District.  Normally, that would not be considered such a feat except that Donnelly had no previous political experience and was outspent by a wide margin.

The 59th Assembly District seat is currently held by Anthony Adams, who survived a well-financed recall effort, after voting to raise taxes last year.  Adams chose not to run for a third term.

Because Adams garnered so much state-wide attention with his pro-tax vote, highly rated Los Angeles-based radio station KFI 640 talk show hosts John and Ken took an active interest in this race, providing publicity to their candidate of choice, Tim Donnelly.  It was that support that took Donnelly from the bottom of the heap to eeking out a first-place finish with a 631-vote lead.

Donnelly is a businessman from the Twin Peaks area. His claim to fame is forming a successful Minuteman group that patrolled the California-Mexico border, garnering interest from national media groups.  It was during that period that he met John and Ken.

SbGrapevine: Lewis Wants to Bring Back Earmarks: 2012 Primary Challenge?

Congressman Jerry Lewis’ $30,000 Portrait

“The Minority Maker,” as the Wall Street Journal dubbed him in a 2006 story, has been a controversial figure in San Bernardino County since his election to the House of Representatives in 1978.  From the affair with his secretary whom he eventually married after divorcing his wife to an ongoing federal probe, this moderate politician in conservative clothing has done more to run up the national debt than his Democratic counterparts in the adjoining district, George Brown and Joe Baca, combined.

Currently hailing from the Republican old money city of Redlands, Congressman Jerry Lewis has pulled the wool over many an eye with his “conservative” mantra but his voting record on fiscal matters has exposed his true agenda.  As a member and former chair of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, Lewis has become known as Capitol Hill’s King of Payoffs.

Shireen Qudosi: Tea Party Protest Against Temecula Mosque Points to Rising Tensions Between Islam and Right Wing Groups

Reposted with authorization from author in an effort to bring forth different perspectives to the blog.

Summary:  The sinking ship known as the Southwest Riverside County Tea Party Citizens in Action Group spurs ignorance and causes further damage to Tea Party and GOP image.  July 30th plans to protest the existing Temecula mosque shows SWRC Tea Party is spurred by hatred of Islam.  By bringing dogs to mosque grounds, singing in protest of belief that Muslim women are forbidden to sing, and with local pastor claiming that the mosque will increase presence of Muslim extremists, group proves to be out of touch with reality.

Heightened tension between Islam and self-proclaimed American Patriots are on the rise. With the Ground Zero mosque protests inciting nation-wide Islamophobia paired with accusations of Tea Party racism, it’s no wonder that one of the biggest battle grounds that brings these two heavyweight issues face to face is in our own backyard – Temecula, California.

The city of Temecula has a Muslim demographic. The Muslim demographic have long since had a place of worship.  However, they needed time to raise funds to convert a basic warehouse like structure into a proper mosque. Continue reading

iePolitics: My First Tea Party – Part Two

Tuesday night I attended what is known as a “Home Tea Party” event in Highland.  It’s sort of like meshing the Tea Party concept with the Tupperware Party concept.  Instead of meeting out in public where attendees have to put up with harassment, they meet in someone’s home.  About 30 people attended this event.

I wasn’t sure what to expect at a Tea Party as mainstream media tends to characterize the participants as crazy, irrational, lunitics.  What I found was a group of people who truly love their country and want to see it returned to greatness.  These are not politicians but average people trying to get involved.  Most are political novices that are trying to learn the ropes. Newsweek: Dem’s Answer to Tea Parties

The Coffee Party Heats Up
Tired of all the Tea Party talk, Annabel Park decided to throw a Coffee Party—and 200,000 people showed up.

From the magazine issue dated May 3, 2010

When Annabel Park imagined what it would be like to head a new national political movement, here is what she had in mind: a coming together of engaged, intelligent citizens who had tired of the angry rhetoric and accusations of the Tea Partiers; Americans of all political persuasions joining in a spirit of equanimity to discuss the nation’s problems, and maybe even share a laugh. It was this beautiful vision that danced in Park’s head on a recent Saturday as she made her way to Busboys and Poets, a cafe in Washington, D.C., for one of nearly 500 Coffee Party meetings taking place nationwide that day. She knew the house would be full—word had spread quickly on the group’s swelling Facebook page. Park, a documentary filmmaker, was especially pleased that C-Span had arranged to broadcast the meeting.

But from the moment folks in the crowd stood up to speak their minds, Park knew these people had not come to sip cappuccinos and set an example of civility for an overheated nation. They were angry. They hated the Tea Party, and the Republican Party. They wanted to get even. One audience member said America was under the thumb of oligarchs and denounced “moneyed interests.” A few people hissed when Sarah Palin’s name was mentioned. Also on hand were the usual suspects drawn to the C-Span bat signal. A man representing Code Pink, the left-wing protest group, said that “racism was the basis for everything that’s going on right now.” He also seemed to have a real problem with “fear-based rhetoric” and Northrop Grumman. iePolitics: Corrupt, Small-Town Politics Raises Its Ugly Head in Menifee

The Tea Party Revolution Candidate Fair 2010 was canceled, not only because of rain, but because Tom Fuhrman, the owner of Wooden Nickel Ranch was told to “Cease and Desist” this Saturday’s event by the City of Menifee.  Fuhrman, from Wooden Nickel Ranch, has been given permission from the Menifee City Council for a 5 year permit to hold events at the Ranch, but he received a letter this week stating to cease and desist this upcoming event. This is private property. He was also told the application is pending. There had been no indication of any problems recently. Why now and why so close to a pending event?

On Wednesday about 4:45 pm, one member assisting in organizing the event received a phone call from one of the candidate’s coordinators.  This person was told by the candidate’s coordinator that he received a phone call from a female at the Menifee city council warning them the event was going to be stopped by the City of Menifee on the day of the event.    He stated that they told him that the Ranch owner had a code violation on the property.
