I’m starting to think there may be a chance I will have to eat my words about President Obama winning re-election. That is one of those predictions in which I hope I was dead wrong.
I guess the dismal economy is finally affecting even the Dems, or should I say they are finally voting with their pocketbooks. Of course, Obama will take California but much of the rest of the country seems to be wising up. Politically speaking, next year is going to be a fun year, if we survive this year, that is.
(I’m referring to our current leaders and their reaction to the earthquake, not our founding fathers.) I’m sure most have seen this already, but I thought it was cute:
VA QUAKE BREAKING NEWS: The USGS has determined that the epicenter of the earthquake was in a cemetery just outside of DC. The cause appears to be our founding fathers rolling over in their graves.
Bill has an interesting story posted: Campaigning from the White House
Well here is a political cartoon for all of you Tea Partiers: Cartoon
Tonight I received a email from Janet. She was concerned because I had not posted in a few days. When I don’t post regularly I get phone calls and emails from bloggers, many of them like Janet who I have never met, but at some level have become friends.
The blog has been amazing that way. I have met a lot of people because of it—sometimes that has been a real blessing and other times not so much so, like ET. But overall it has been a great experience, especially when I finally get to meet someone who I have corresponded with for a couple of years and probably talked with on the phone. That happened the other week with the person responsible for bringing the whole Doreen Boxer situation to light.
Then sometimes I hear about someone who reads the blog and it makes me cringe. That also happened a couple of days ago.
My old timers know my father was a minister and I was raised Pentecostal. I have really struggled with my faith for the past few years. And it has showed in some very dramatic ways on the blog. So imagine my dismay when a friend told me he was meeting with his pastor, who happens to pastor the largest church in the high desert, and the subject of iePolitics came up. Seems the pastor reads the blog on occasion. Oops. I would like to say I cringed just a little, but in reality, I cringed a whole heck of a lot.
So, I’m thinking to myself I should spend more time listening to my Casting Crowns or Third Day CDs and less time to John and Ken!
I always used to write a Sunday post and took some criticism for it but decided to get back to it just a bit. So, for this Sunday, I came across this video that could be said to be political and religious at the same time:
Rep. Loretta Sanchez forms 2014 Gubernatorial Committee
With growing doubts surrounding Jerry Brown’s highly competitive race for Governor, Congresswomen Loretta Sanchez announced yesterday she’s forming a Committee to raise money for a gubernatorial run in 2014.
With Jerry Brown running an uninspired campaign for Governor, jockeying for the 2014 nomination for Governor has already begun,” said Crystal Feldman, press secretary for the California Republican Party. “Nervous Democrats, uneasy over Brown’s likelihood of capturing the Governor’s office and extending his decades-long tenure on the California state payroll, are starting to hedge their bets. Even Brown’s supporters are showing uneasiness that he has no plan to create jobs, lacks any proven ability to manage budgets and protect taxpayers, and has no clear path to restore California’s economy. After 40 years in politics controlling Sacramento’s back rooms, it looks like Democrats are poised to issue Jerry his gold watch and move toward the next chapter.
I should be very happy for cops right now because I’ve been so busy I haven’t had time for the blog the last two days. Thanks guys for keeping it going!
I’m really behind on the Voter’s Guide for several reason: equipment malfunction, body malfunction, and attitude malfunction! Actually, I’ve just been sick and busy and fed up with my computer and Blackberry.
Anyway, there are still quite a few candidates I have not been able to get a hold of and if any of you are them or know them or want to contact them on my behalf, it would be great. Here is the link to my working draft (haven’t updated the site in a while) so you can see what I’m doing: www.sbcovotersguide.com. And, yes, I know some of it is not working, which is why I’m so frustrated with it. The current version does not work at all with Firefox on a Mac. Works fine using Safari on a Mac. I’m making the necessary changes so that it will work on any computer.
For those so inclined, here is a list of candidates I need help contacting: Continue reading
As Beaufort pointed out below I may have opened the proverbial Pandora’s Box and that was on purpose. In politics, it seems like the worst of worse are those that claim God is on their side. And this year, the Conservative Right seems to be invoking God more than normal.
Those who know me well know that I have some pretty strong religious beliefs although I’m not much better than most in practicing them. I have found it especially tough when I’m going through periods of extreme depression. But then I’m not running for office or in a leadership position, not that that is an excuse. Continue reading
Boy, was this a dreadful week for Mr. Brown.
He began the week in a position of power, and had all the perks that accompanied such a lofty post. He was at the top of his game.
By mid-week however, Brown was turned away from his office against his will, and he was forced to turn to legal experts and political allies in a desperate attempt to hang to his job. There appears to be furious political maneuvering to resolve a sudden dispute.
Indeed, Brown may be out. Continue reading
Tuesday morning the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors will considering waiving its attorney-client privilege protecting communications related to the litigation and 2006 settlement of the lawsuit between the County Flood Control District and Colonies Partners, LP.
The $102 million settlement was to compensate for damages created by flood control actions resulting from the construction of the 210 freeway in Upland.
Now that the trial of Rancho Cucamonga City Councilman Rex Gutierrez has been continued to June 1st, focus now shifts to a lesser publicized case with even greater potential to inflict major damage to the professional and political career of San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos.
The trial in question involves former District Attorney Investigator Christopher Cardoza.
As expected, a Superior Court Judge agreed with San Bernardino County prosecutors to delay the trial of Rancho Cucamonga City Councilman Rex Gutierrez this morning.
The trial, which was scheduled to commence Monday morning, addresses charges against Gutierrez alleging time card fraud stemming from Gutierrez’ tenure with the San Bernardino County Assessor’s Office under Bill Postmus.

The campaign finance disclosure statements for members of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors have some interesting characteristics of note.
Here is the annual summary of all five supervisors who collectively raised $899,384.54 in 2009.
Not bad for a poor economy.

InlandPolitics.com has learned that incoming San Bernardino County Administrative Officer Greg Devereaux is looking at outside talent for key positions in his new administration.
Which positions are being looked at by Devereaux is not clear, but county supervisors appear to be allowing the incoming chief full authority to manage and get the house in order.
By all accounts Devereaux is doing just that.
Cases involving four criminal defendants which are now entering the evidentiary stage appear to now rest on the sole testimony of one key witness.
Former Assistant Assessor Adam Aleman who has plead “no-contest” to one count of Vandalism, two counts of Destroying or Altering Documents, and one count of Presenting a false claim, is now the “go to” guy for District Attorney Michael Ramos, who is attempting to portray himself as a corruption fighter.
Some glaring issues arise here when taking a look at Aleman’s charges.
Some berate us for suggesting that a politician’s personal life is an important indicator of how they will serve in public life. I will continue to argue that a public figure who is incapable of honoring the most cherished covenants between God and man, that of matrimony and parenthood, is equally incapable of fulfilling his obligations to those who elected him to office. As constituents we cannot expect better treatment from someone who lies and cheats on his family. Continue reading
The long-awaited investigation into sexual-related misconduct and work place activity of District Attorney Mike Ramos and his department management staff was released yesterday afternoon. The investigation was triggered by allegations made against Ramos and his managers by Cheryl Ristow, an employee in the District Attorney’s office.
True-to-form, San Bernardino County fails to disappoint by creating a bigger mess.
Local newspapers jumped on the “Ramos is cleared” band-wagon immediately. One even attacked the claimant Cheryl Ristow in the headline.
Ramos immediately claimed vindication on all fronts and denied everything once again.
City of Grand Terrace council member Bertha Bea Cortes is the focus of a complaint submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney this week.
InlandPolitics.com received a copy of the complaint by email this morning.
The complaint signed by twelve citizen’s of the city alleges that Cortes committed multiple violations of the Political Reform Act. Specifically, that Cortes engaged in a conflict of interest in violation of section 1090 of the California Government Code, and committed perjury by filing false statements of economic interest, known as Form 700.
InlandPolitics.com has received permission to use excerpts from a journal submitted as an exhibit by the complainant to county investigators.
The journal is handwritten and covers the time period from April 24, 2004 through July 25, 2005.
