iePolitics: The Race for the 63rd Assembly District

The 63rd Assembly District is one of two hotly contested Assembly seats in San Bernardino County.  There are seven Republicans vying for the Republican nomination, six of which are actively campaigning for the seat.  They are:  Mike Morrell, Paul Chabot, Acquanetta Warren, Pat Gilbreath, Henry Nickle, and Don Kurth.

This was both an easy and hard decision for me, not as to whom to vote for, as I don’t live in the district, but rather whom to support.  There are several very well qualified candidates.

There is only one candidate that I do not want to see win and that is Don Kurth.  He was a convicted drug felon in his 20s and served prison time.  Later in life he has had issues with domestic violence.  He has also had some serious financial problems.  But more important to me than any of that, Don, along with his campaign manager Jessica Austin, and campaign consultant Chris Jones, has run the single most unethical and dirty campaign in all of San Bernardino County.  None of the three of them appear to have any ethics or integrity whatsoever.  What they have done is shameful.  And it would be shameful if a RINO such as Don Kurth received the Republican Party’s nod. Pat Gilbreath: Press-Enterprise Backs Gilbreath

The Press-Enterprise

California needs a Legislature willing to address pressing public issues, instead of sinking into partisan stalemate. Voters should look for legislative candidates who understand California’s most immediate need — fixing the state’s finances — and who offer sensible ideas for improving state government.

63rd Assembly District: This race features a field of seven Republicans running to represent a district that stretches from Rancho Cucamonga to Highland. The best choice for voters is Pat Gilbreath, a 17-year veteran of the Redlands City Council. Gilbreath, a retired accountant, would bring financial expertise to a state government badly in need of that strength. Gilbreath has been a strong voice for a balanced budget in Redlands, and repeatedly opposed the city’s reckless use of reserves to cover deficit spending. Continue reading

Pat Gilbreath: GOP’S Pat Gilbreath to Stump in Rancho

Assembly Candidate: “Conservative Reform is Coming to Sacramento!”

RANCHO CUCAMONGA [04.16.10] – Mayor Pat Gilbreath (R-Redlands) candidate for the 63rd State Assembly District is bringing her campaign to Rancho Cucamonga this Monday. The GOP hopeful says the visit “is part of face-to-face conversations I’m having with voters before the June 8th Primary.”  Adding, “I want people to know that these convictions, about needing to tame the unchecked size and growth of government, don’t come from a poll. My conservative view of government comes from lifelong beliefs.”

In recent weeks Gilbreath has called for major reductions in taxes, spending levels and a return to a part-time, “citizen legislature.” The Redlands mayor believes the people of Rancho Cucamonga will be “critical to winning the fight for difficult, but necessary reforms in Sacramento,” she said.  Continuing, “I can’t imagine what California, and especially our region, will be like if we fail to force a dramatically new direction in the State Capitol.”

Gilbreath notes that her training, and three decades of experience as a CPA provides, “a special skill set in bring Sacramento back in balance with the values of the citizens they serve.”

As a CPA, I’ve never understood how politicians campaign on “job creation,” while supporting policies that undermine and destroy any hope of real economic growth. They should really know better. High tax rates combined with incredible levels of spending and debt have sidelined thousands of California’s job creators and entrepreneurs. Exhausted taxpayers can no longer afford the price.

The fact is that we can’t continue to grow the size of state government while creating a healthy environment for job creation and growth. It just isn’t possible. Sacramento has been recycling this strange strategy for decades, under Democrat and even Republican management. Without principled, conservative leadership in the State Assembly, California’s negative course is set, with little chance for change. Continue reading
