iePolitics: Guess what Ruthie has done now to embarrass the BOS

Back in early June, iePolitics was tipped off that Dr. Dev Gnanadev, medical director for Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC), had real property in San Bernardino County and the beach area that he was not reporting on his FPPC Form 700.  We were also advised that he employed his wife in his medical billing business and required some of the doctors that contract with ARMC to use his medical billing service.  His wife’s income was also not reported on his FPPC Form 700.

We obtained copies of his last four 700s and determined there were discrepancies.  We also had the Assessor’s Office check his name for real property and found several possible properties he did not claim in this county.  Because the information he put on his Form 700 was done very sloppily, it was hard to tell exactly how much he under-reported but it was clear he had not reported everything he was required to report.

iePolitics: More ethics from Larry Walker

This came in a couple of days ago from the Auditor/Controller/Tax Collector’s office:

I.T. department at ACR says lets do some training.
Enrolls one person in a virtual class for Windows training.  Sounds good so far, save money on traveling, etc…
Then tells 4 other people to go to the training and act like the one person enrolled.
So now we have 4 people going to training and only paying for 1 person.  I guess that is great if you are ACR.  Saved money.  Not so great if you are the training company.  Lost money.  Lost several thousand dollars of money.
I don’t know why management would think this is OK to steal from the training company.
This is going on right now…till Friday….

InlandPolitics Commentary: Wells Fargo scamming Inland Empire mortgage borrowers?

The administration of President Barack Obama has been continuously stressing that it wants to keep Americans in their homes.

After all, the U.S. Federal Reserve System is giving the money center banks including Wells Fargo, virtually free money so the same banks can turnaround and lend it back to the U.S. Treasury keeping the interest paid by the same Treasury as profit. Isn’t it great? Borrow money from taxpayers at an interest rate of 0.00%-0.25% and then lend it back to taxpayers at a substantially higher interest rate. A practice known as making money on the spread.

Why modify mortgages when you can force the borrowers out of their homes and use taxpayer money to cushion the loss?

Now along comes Wells Fargo Bank.

A bank that is a major California mortgage lender with a large Inland Empire presence. Continue reading

iePolitics: ARMC: Our BOS wants more stupid?

So is our illustrious San Bernardino Board of Supervisors up to stupid again?  We hope not.  But we won’t know for sure until Tuesday’s meeting.  BOS agenda item No. 16 has left us scratching our heads.  This board item approves new,2-year contracts with all of the various medical providers for Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC), with the exception of the Anesthesia contract, which is extended six months.

ARMC has been under investigation almost continuously since the final quarter of 2009 for a variety of reasons including malpractice, patient abuse, billing issues, and violations of state regulations.  All three levels of government, federal, state and county, have been involved in these investigations and they have not been completed.  The situation at ARMC remains so dire that it could lose its Medi-Cal and Medicare funding which in turn could lead to the hospital being shut down.

Special Agents from the California Department of  Justice are currently investigating possible criminal misconduct at ARMC.  It is rumored that it has to do with, among other things, the medical care received by Supervisors Biane and Gonzales and former County Administrative Officer Mark Uffer and his family and friends.  That makes sense because otherwise it would be the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office investigating.  However that agency has very close personal ties with all involved and that is why it appears the investigation has been turned over from the District Attorney to the Attorney General.

There has been a battle going on at ARMC for months now.  Those doctors who are tired of the mismanagement and despotic rule by ARMC Medical Director Dr. Dev GnanaDev have started speaking out.  And at least one has paid a price for doing so, that being the doctor in charge of Anesthesia, which is why his group’s contract is being extended rather than receiving a new 2-year contract like all others at the facility.  Dr. GnanaDev wants to replace him with one of his own but there is too much heat to do so right now.

The new series of contracts has one change and that is there is a separate contract for Dr. GnanaDev as medical director and one for Dr. GnanaDev for patient care.  However, the conflicts of interest still exist: Continue reading

iePolitics: California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training

For those of you concerned with the apparent fraudulent training certificates being issued involving San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department employees, someone from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) was reading the entry yesterday.  The Commission can no longer make any claims that they don’t know what is going on in this county.

It seems we have yet another double standard in this county.  When law enforcement officials commit a crime, such as Mike Ramos and now members of the Sheriff’s Department, our chief law enforcement officers for the county look the other way or help in a cover up.

If you would like to contact POST and request this matter be fully investigated, you can do so at 916.227.3909 or via email at postmaster@post.ca.gov.

iePolitics: Sheriff’s Training Fraud–Where is Mikey?

I received the following email a little while ago:

Can you tell me what ever has happened to the case involving over 20 Deputies getting college credits when they did not attend the classes. It seems to just have gone away. This is serious because of the lying these people did and the amount of money they have taken from the County.

I asked our resident expert, AntiCorruptionUnit, as he is the one who broke this story, and here is his response:

Yes the case died a quiet death thanks to Sheriff Hoops.  Captain Bart Gray is now retired.  His wife was demoted from her position in the training division and sent back to the jail.

Just another cover up by the Sheriff’s Department. No prosecution if forthcoming in this matter.

So where is our crime-fighting District Attorney?  Oh yeah, political opps with Moonbeam.
