In an interview the the Sun / Daily Bulletin newspapers, District Attorney Michael Ramos didn’t mince words.

Ramos’ statement in an article published this morning in both publications was clear and unambiguous.

It’s becoming ever so increasingly clear Ramos has become dangerous, and last week Attorney General Edmund “Jerry” Brown did nothing more than empower an already jaded man.

If he only knew.

During an interview regarding his re-election bid, when asked about potential challengers Ramos told reporter James Rufus Koren, “If these people wanted to take me out, it would be for political reasons only,” Ramos said. “And we would watch where every dime (of campaign spending) came from.”

Potential challenger to Ramos, retired San Bernardino County District Attorney Dennis Stout, who hasn’t made a final decision on whether he will run said in the story, “It sounds like, `I’ll criminally prosecute anyone who gives money to you.”‘

District Attorney Mike Ramos

Pathetic.

There’s just no other word to describe it. Well maybe “disingenuous” might work as well.

Does San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos have an honest bone in his body?

Since the re-election window is approaching on the event horizon, our illustrious District Attorney has embarked on taking credit for everything around. Sources tell InlandPolitics this may soon include the invention of sliced bread.

If anything, Ramos prostituting himself around the county is at least entertaining.

This week we were all treated to how Ramos envisioned and implemented the District Attorney Truancy Program. A highly successful program that has dramatically reduced student truancy throughout the county.

As usual, local newspapers fell for the Ramos public relations sham. Gullible Inland newspapers oozed out articles and editorials praising Ramos for his great idea.

Not so fast!

The only problem. The program was instituted ten years ago under the retired District Attorney Dennis Stout. If memory serves us correctly, Ramos has been in office just seven years.

I really love math, don’t you? In politics what’s a few years here or there, right?

Keep in mind, the newspapers dislike Stout and have hooked themselves to Ramos like a ball and chain.

Ramos has even taken the credit for conjuring up the idea for the now “morally bankrupt” Public Integrity Unit. Another untrue statement.

Again, another idea of his predecessor that was not funded by county supervisors until Ramos’ first year in office.

A few weeks ago the Hispanic Chamber put on a luncheon in the High Desert. Ramos arrogant as ever, showed up and pushed his way onto a question and answer panel. However, fearing something bad might be asked, Ramos refused to take random questions from the audience

Some of the Women in attendance had nothing to say about Ramos other than “Isn’t he the one that cheated on his wife?”

It seems we are seeing more grass roots candidates this election cycle and the filing deadline is still weeks away. Political experts say these candidates don’t stand a chance. Without a bankroll they may not. But what is more important is that most of our current entrenched politicos are feeling just a bit of heat. And some of those war chests might have to be spent on campaigning rather than wining and dining their family and friends. That is a good thing.

Sheriff Rod Hoops now has two competitors: Rick Averbeck and Paul Schrader. District Attorney Mike Ramos is being challenged by at least one, Dennis Stout. John Pomierski and Dennis H. Labadie have both thrown their hats into the ring to replace Second District Supervisor Paul Biane. We haven’t heard if a candidate has announced his or her intent to run against Larry Walker, but there is talk that will happen.

But one candidate in particular stands out as being a shoe-in, not because the incumbent is such a great leader, but because no one seems to want to file to run against him. That is Fourth District Supervisor and Chairman of the Board Gary Ovitt. Ovitt seems to be getting a free ride this time around and that should not be.

Ovitt has shown little in leadership qualities during his year as Chairman, most recently aiding and abetting the most corrupt district attorney in the country in a blatant coverup of a sex scandal. Ovitt needs an opponent. We need for Gary to have an opponent, even if only to give him a sleepless night or two or at least give the appearance that he, on occasion, will make an ethical decision.

It’s time we start prodding fourth district residents to take up arms, figuratively speaking of course, and take back their district. We need to find a challenger or two for Ovitt.

The most likely challenger for the spot is Senator Gloria Negrete McCloud. Another name being bantered around is Chino Councilwoman Eunice Ulloa. Either would provide a breath of fresh air to the fifth floor but neither seem all that interested in leaving the safety of the current seats. Ovitt does not deserve a free ride. We need to find someone to give him a run for his money. Anyone have any great ideas?
