WSJ: GOP Lawmakers May Back California Governor’s Tax Plan
By VAUHINI VARA
In what could become a turning point in Gov. Jerry Brown’s effort to close California’s $26.6 billion deficit, a group of Republican state senators may support the Democratic governor’s plan to ask voters for extended tax increases, in exchange for concessions, people familiar with the matter said.
iePolitics: The John and Ken Rumor
I asked one of my Assembly contacts if the claim made by John and Ken about Republican defectors is true. I’m told it is not.
I also emailed all of the “defectors” except Emmerson, as I do not have his personal email address. I doubt I will get responses, but we shall see.
iePolitics: Someone needs to ask Dutton, Emmerson, Conway, Knight and Cook “Why not?”
Editor’s Note: In the home county of Anthony Adams, this does not seem like a smart move.
Two-thirds of Republicans in the California Legislature announced Wednesday that they were forming a new group and pledged not only never to vote to raise taxes but also to block efforts to place a tax-hike measure before voters.
The group’s creation is a stick in the eye for Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat whose budget plan is based on allowing a public referendum on extending taxes in June.
iePolitics: Is Assemlyman Bill Emmerson (R-Somewhere In California) Turning Against District Attorney Mike Ramos?
Is Assemblyman Bill Emmerson (R-Hemet/Upland/Redlands/Wherever) turning against one of his strongest endorsers? For years, DA Mike Ramos and Bill Emmerson have been politically close. DA Mike Ramos has endorsed Emmerson for legislative offices through the years, and Emmerson has backed Ramos for district attorney.
However, is that supposedly close political relationship about to change?
With much fanfare, it was announced in February 2010 that DA Ramos believed that Second District County Supervisor Paul Biane (who was identified only as a “John Doe”) was an unindicted co-conspirator in alleged malfeasance related to the 2006 Colonies settlement. Biane, like most of those charged by Ramos, denies all allegations, and he himself has not yet been charged. However, at a press conference that attracted statewide media attention, Ramos made clear when unveiling Biane’s possible involvement in an alleged corruption scheme that the criminal investigation remains “ongoing.” Continue reading
iePolitics: Yet Another Opponent for Supervisor Paul Biane
Sacramento-based sources claim that Senator Robert Dutton (R-31) will throw his hat into the ring to unseat embattled San Bernardino County Second District Supervisor Paul Biane. Three others, Upland Mayor John “JP” Pomierski, KCAA radio host Peter “Scott” Markovich, and publisher of The Alpenphorn News, Dennis Labadie, have all expressed interest in the seat, with the latter two having already declared their candidacies.
Biane was implicated this week as John Doe 5 in a criminal complaint alleging conspiracy and bribery when San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos filed charges against former Assessor and Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Postmus and former Assistant Assessor and Third District Chief of Staff Jim Erwin. This, combined with other on-going legal issues, opens the door for a likely successful unseating of Biane. Continue reading
iePolitics: Corrupt, Small-Town Politics Raises Its Ugly Head in Menifee
The Tea Party Revolution Candidate Fair 2010 was canceled, not only because of rain, but because Tom Fuhrman, the owner of Wooden Nickel Ranch was told to “Cease and Desist” this Saturday’s event by the City of Menifee. Fuhrman, from Wooden Nickel Ranch, has been given permission from the Menifee City Council for a 5 year permit to hold events at the Ranch, but he received a letter this week stating to cease and desist this upcoming event. This is private property. He was also told the application is pending. There had been no indication of any problems recently. Why now and why so close to a pending event?
On Wednesday about 4:45 pm, one member assisting in organizing the event received a phone call from one of the candidate’s coordinators. This person was told by the candidate’s coordinator that he received a phone call from a female at the Menifee city council warning them the event was going to be stopped by the City of Menifee on the day of the event. He stated that they told him that the Ranch owner had a code violation on the property. Continue reading
