The Oak Hills Property Owners Association will host four of five First Supervisorial District candidates in a debate on April 7, 2016. The candidates are expected to discuss issues affecting the high desert including the proliferation of solar farms and other land-use concerns, job creation, water consumption, mining, and public safety.
Hesperia Mayor Bill Holland, Hesperia Mayor pro tem Paul Russ, former Victorville Councilwoman Angela Valles, and former Apple Valley Mayor Rick Roelle have all confirmed their participation. Incumbent First District Supervisor Robert “Bob” Lovingood declined.
Lovingood’s staff indicated the supervisor would not attend unless organizers agreed to reschedule the event to accommodate him. Since the event was planned two months before the debate date and all four of the other candidates had already confirmed, event organizers declined to meet Lovingood’s demands. Instead Lovingood has arranged a County of San Bernardino-sanctioned event, using taxpayer funds to pay for the event, in Oak Hills later in the month for Lovingood only.
