Not all animals end up in the shelter system because of irresponsible pet owners. Circumstances happen from financial hardship to a utility worker leaving a gate open. And in this economy, often it is pets who suffer first.
Captain Care is one of a handful of intervention programs in Southern California aimed at removing financial barriers so that families can keep their pets. Volunteer Elizabeth Ferranti took some time to answer a few questions about Captain Care in hopes the program can be replicated elsewhere and to increase awareness about their unique mission.
