Andrew Thomas Young, age 18, was sentenced on Aug. 11, 2015, to time in a San Bernardino County adult jail in connection to the death of Eddie Scott, son of Rialto City Councilman Ed Scott. Eddie Scott was a passenger in a vehicle Young was driving while under the influence of what is thought to be Nitrous Oxide.
Young was 17 at the time of the accident and was tried in juvenile court. As such, Christopher Lee, public information officer for San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos, wrote in response to a California Public Records Act request that, “After looking into this matter we are statutorily prohibited under Welfare & Institutions Code section 676 from even confirming we have a case. Therefore I can neither confirm, nor deny that the case in question even exists.”
However, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Locator, Young was taken into custody on Aug. 11 at the location of Juvenile Court. The records list his current location as the Central Detention Center, which suggests a light sentence. Having been tried as a juvenile, had he received significant time in custody, he would have been sent to the California Youth Authority, not county jail.
