Assemblyman Paul Cook will announce his candidacy for the Third District seat on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors tomorrow. iePolitics will post the press release when it is received.
Cook will be the third major candidate for the position. Incumbent Neil Derry is running for re-election. San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Chairman and casino boss James Ramos has also declared in what has already become a contentious race.
(SAN BERNARDINO) – Congressman Jerry Lewis (R-Redlands) endorsed San Manuel Tribal Chairman James Ramos this week in Ramos’ bid for a seat on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Ramos has served as a member of the San Bernardino Community College Board of Trustees since 2005. He is also a member the California Board of Education since his appointment by Governor Jerry Brown in January of this year.
Lewis’ endorsement raised eyebrows among county Republicans. Ramos is a Democrat who is running against a conservative Republican incumbent, Supervisor Neil Derry. Many Tea Party members and Republicans alike have accused Lewis of being a RINO (Republican In Name Only) and an opportunist with this endorsement. Ramos and the San Manuel tribe contribute heavily to political campaigns in the region, including that of Congressman Lewis.

James Ramos
As we suggested might happen back in December, San Manuel Tribal Chairman James Ramos is announcing his bid to unseat San Bernardino County Third District Supervisor Neil Derry. I was personally yelled at by Jim Erwin back then for even suggesting this might happen. But as anyone who is not emotionally involved with the Third District race knows, the writing was on the wall. Ramos has been gearing up for this for a long time.
Ramos has plenty of baggage. He also has plenty of loot and could outspend all his competition 5-1 if he chose to do so. I suspect Derry will not be the only other candidate. Remember, I have a really good crystal ball.

Governor Jerry Brown appointed San Manuel Tribal Chairman James Ramos to the California Board of Education. Ramos also serves on the San Bernardino Community College Board of Trustees.
Ramos was among seven Democrats named to the board today by Brown. Brown was expected to make five appointments, however, the Senate chose not to confirm two Schwarzenegger appointments, Ted Mitchell and David Lopez, giving Brown the ability to appoint a majority of the board to help form his own education policy.
It seems the behind-the-scenes chatter is picking up regarding at least one challenger for San Bernardino Third District Supervisor incumbent Neil Derry. James Ramos, tribal chairman of the San Manuel Band of Serrano Mission Indians, is said to be considering seriously a run for the seat that includes parts of San Bernardino, and the cities/communities of Redlands, Yucaipa, Big Bear, Highland, Lake Arrowhead and Yucca Valley.

Based on information contained in a story published in Thursday’s Los Angeles Times, InlandPolitics.com has verified by cross-referencing database lists from the California Department of Social Services and the California Gambling Control Commission that some local indian casinos allow welfare recipients to withdraw cash with state issued debit cards.
Casinos operated by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians in Highland, Morongo Band of Mission Indians in Cabazon, Pala Band of Mission Indians in Pala, and the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians in Temecula, offer automated teller machines (ATM) that accept debit cards issued by the state’s welfare system. We need to see change regarding the gun laws in California. Call your lawmakers and tell them you want the law changed.
On Tuesday, April 6, the Assembly Public Safety Committee will consider three pro-gun bills.
Assembly Bill 2053, sponsored by Assemblymember Jeff Miller (R-71), would clarify the current statutes for law enforcement to issue a concealed firearms license. Under AB2053, the “good cause” stipulation would apply to self-defense, defending the life of another, or preventing crime in which a human life is threatened. Continue reading
Well by now Rod I’m suspect you think you know the reason we’re using this blog to help your opponent. Although you may think it has to do with January 1, it doesn’t. It has to do with the fact that your deputies refused to take a burglary report and make an arrest when it was so clearly warranted—you know, unlawful entry into a dwelling to commit theft or any other felony. I have talked to at least a half dozen attorneys (because, yes, you and the county are being sued) and they are flabbergasted that the Sheriff”s Department would not take a report under such circumstances, thus causing me to lose $20,000 or more in property. Any other citizen would have received proper service, but I’m special. You think you have the right to use your position to revenge your friends, such as Mark Uffer and Mike Ramos. And I do have the right to use my blog to see that you are not elected to a new term.
Now that I’ve looked at your campaign forms, I guess I know why I was given the treatment I was. I remember the discussion I had with the detective and lieutenant about the blog and one looked at the other and said, “I’m glad I’m not political.” And the other replied, “I’m glad I’m not either.” Lo and behold, guess who is on your list of campaign contributors? Gee, if it isn’t the detective and lieutenant that were supposed to calm the waters. So, once again you’ve given me “special” treatment, haven’t you? Continue reading

I have been involved with too many other things lately to pursue either of these issues, but since both bands of Indians contribute heavily to the political process in San Bernardino County it is time to return to the subject.
One of the accusations I hear frequently is about the number of deaths on these reservations that are overlooked or covered up. No wonder considering the amount of gifts and contributions made to county officials, including the District Attorney. Continue reading
The situation at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center is more serious than even I realized. I have not been writing about it because of the type of investigation that is going on. This investigation is not being completed by the county or standard state agencies that normally investigate the hospital. I will update as information becomes available. I do expect to see at least one termination at a very high level and there is a potential for criminal charges being brought. Continue reading
Jim made me laugh this morning and doesn’t even know it. I’ve come to the conclusion that having separate blogs is a good thing. Our overall mission is the same, and we share most of the same targets. But we both have our “special” people or organizations that need our “special” attention.
For me, for example, my newest target is San Manuel. Those who have known me for years know I have a special place in my heart for Native Americans. It goes back to when I was 8 years old and my family moved to Tucson from Eagle Rock. Even at that age I realized the disparate treatment of Native Americans. Tucson at the time was almost in a depression and the poverty on the reservations rivaled any third-world country. Anyway, I’ve spent my share of time on reservations since and love the culture. If I had my choice right now I would be living near the Navajo Reservation in Arizona or the Zuni Reservation in New Mexico.
iePolitics is starting a series examining the influence of Indian gaming on politics and crime in San Bernardino County. We will detail its involvement with organized crime and the Mexican Mafia, the preferential treatment by San Bernardino County officials, and their political activities through political action committees, as well as report on some of the “incidents” involving the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians that go unreported by mainstream media.
Among the topics will be the relationship between Tribal Chief James Ramos and District Attorney Mike Ramos, the chaos with the tribal police whose captain happens to be the wife of Safety Employee Benefit Association President William Abernathie, and incidents with the Gaming Commission, most recently involving a physical assault by Tom Ramos, James’ brother.
