Organizers of the June 28 protest in front Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s home are not satisfied with the mayor’s response to their demands regarding the department of animal services. They have scheduled a second protest for next Sunday.
Activists are protesting Garcetti’s continued support of Los Angeles Animal Services General Manager Brenda Barnette. They say her policies and procedures contribute to the suffering and euthanasia of the city’s animals.
When asked why a second protest is being planned so soon, protest organizer Paul Darrigo responded, “We were committed to meeting before the protest. But the Mayor has not reached out to us yet. There were so many people who expressed their experiences that a more expedite response is necessary.”
