In 2012, San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos created the Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACT), which is comprised of 40 agencies from counties throughout Southern California. ACT includes not only animal control personnel, but sheriff’s deputies and a deputy district attorney with specialized knowledge in the area of animal abuse and law.
This past week, the National Association of Counties (NACo) announced that ACT is being honored nationally with a NACo award in the category of Criminal Justice and Public Safety. The awards program is in its 44th year. It was created to recognize groundbreaking and innovative county government programs across the nation.
