In the wee hours of the morning of March 19, Moreno Valley residents dumped 21 small dogs at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter.  The dogs may have come from a backyard breeder or puppy mill operation.

The dogs are all small breeds including Toy Poodles, Maltese, Chihuahuas, and Yorkshire Terriers.  They range in age from 2 to 12 years old.  According to an inside source, one or more may be pregnant, including a senior, but that is not confirmed officially.  According to a press release from the city, the dogs were suffering from varying degrees of neglect and malnutrition.

Steve Fries, Manager of the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter said, “These dogs were dumped off on a night when the temperature dipped to 49 degrees and they were so malnourished that they had no body fat to keep them warm. Dogs were stuffed three and four to a small crate and the larger dogs were trampling the smaller dogs.”
