Los Angeles Animal Care and Control Director Marcia Mayeda has declared war against an animal welfare advocate who regularly attempts to hold the department accountable for shelter conditions and county policies that are clearly in violation of state law. Due to the retaliatory nature of Mayeda, the advocate’s name will not be disclosed.
On June 22, Mayeda sent a letter to the advocate stating, “Unfortunately, the volume of requests by telephone and email have become overly burdensome and take excessive staff time to handle. This has interfered with their ability to complete their assignments in a timely and efficient manner and to provide services to Los Angeles County residents.”
