According to a member of the Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control executive staff, Claerbout remains employed by the county and will move into a position in administration. The employee said additional information could not be released due to personnel rules.
Claerbout has been a polarizing figure at each of the shelters she managed. Stockton, where she served as director, is currently involved in a lawsuit due to her employment with that shelter. Rescues and employees alike allege she killed animals in retaliation for speaking out about her practices. Euthanasia rates spiked under Claerbout while she was in Stockton.
