iePolitics is hearing something may break soon regarding the Barstow police officer arrested for racial slurs and we hear it has something to do with the Sharks, the gang of San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies from Victorville, who terrorized certain members of the community. These deputy sheriffs went so far as to have sharks tattooed on their ankles. I don’t remember now which SBSD executive got a bit upset about this but it seems to me Hoops ran interference for the group.
I have a lot of stories collected about the Sharks but I never finished that series, which I need to do one of these days. But one of the funnier yet disappointing stories I heard was that a couple of them went to a home to make an arrest. The family was at Burger King picking up dinner. When they arrived home, the arrest was made but the family was made to watch these deputies eat their dinner before hauling off the perp.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it was one of the Sharks who shot up the golf course or a golf cart or something like that at the Green Tree Inn, correct?
Anyway, has anyone found this whole incident with the Barstow police officer a bit off the wall. People use racial slurs all the time but don’t go to jail for them. Something is stinky here.

Is it really institutionalized racism, or is it instead institutionalized asshole-ish-ness? Their collective stupidity is probably feeding off one another as if in a symbiotic relationship. These deputies behave as if the entire sheriff’s department is one big exclusive boy’s club; which, I guess it is.
The SBSD Executive was Richard Beemer, and no Hoops DID NOT cover for them. THIS seemed to be pretty much a Richard Beemer thing.
I know some of these guys, worked with them, and NEVER EVER saw them say or doing ANYTHING stupid. One of these guys I worked with for a couple years on graveyard. ALL that man did was work, and be there if you needed him.AN OUTSTANDING street cop and partner.
A couple others were Sergeants, GOOD GUYS when I worked for them. One was a Lieutenant when this issue broke wide open. I had worked with him and he too was a good guy. NO stupid games with these guys, ALL business.
When Beemer got this bug up his butt and started hauling them downtown, for many of these guys, ALL Beemer had was nothing but a perception to talk to them about.
But as I have said before, perception is reality for some of those downtown.
Terrorize people. ONLY if you were a crook, raping and robbing people were you terrorized.
I know what was said about a couple of them, but all I can say is NOT with those guys I worked with.
I’d go through a door with them ANYTIME.
It is somewhat rare that I agree with ACU, but in this instance I must. I have also worked with several of these “sharks” over the years. With few exceptions, I have found them to be hard working, high producing street cops. Painting them all with the same brush as the one who made some serious mistakes would be unfair.
Jimmie Williams from Barstow PD is not a shark. He was not with any sharks. He was out drinking with the infamous Sheriff’s Sgt. John Emmens (Sheree Stewart’s Pet) prior to getting in trouble. Emmens is not a shark, and in fact, the sharks mock him as a fat, dimwitted coward. Williams is not the first to claim shark affiliation in an attempt to receive some sort of perceived leniancy. On the contrary, the “sharks” I know have been treated more harshly by the department than your average deputy.
I agree with ACU that these guys are all business when it comes to putting people in jail. ( I could never keep up with their arrest stats) I have never seen them display racism, or terrorize citizens, and I worked with several of them.
This article looks like a fishing expedition (no pun intended) with no basis in fact. I have spoken to some sharks, and they have no idea who Jimmie Williams is.
I’d go through a door with them anytime also.
I can say my information came from one of my best sources. However, all I said was that it “had something to do with the Sharks.” That could mean anything. When I get more information, I will share it.
The individual who was a shark and got himself into trouble off duty, I told that story long ago on this blog. He was drunk, destroyed property $30K,shot his own truck up to make it look like it had been stolen, when his truck got stuck in a sand trap on the golf course he was tearing up.
Then lied to his fellow cops and a supervisor who were VERY concerned about his safety when they found his truck with bullet holes in it.
NO criminal charges filed on that case despite the seriouness of the issues. Cover up, seems so for someone.I know it didn’t make the papers that is for sure.
Seems shortly after that incident, the above incident with Beemer took place. Some speculation floating around about someone eating a little “cheese” to maybe save their bacon. Kinda like an Adam Aleman. Point fingers talk smack, take attention off yourself it what it sounded like to me.
LOTS of good people got yanked in because of Richard Beemers knee jerk reaction and made to feel like they were the real MAFIA. Some of these guys WERE company men, and some had impeccable work records.
SOME of these guys may have forgiven those Executives for all that, BUT I know a couple of them are changed in attitude forever. And that attitude is justified.
Jimmie Walker is NOT a shark.He went over to his girlfriends house or ex-girlfriend and found her with a black man. A fight took place and while Walker was pounding the guy he was using the “N” word more than a few times. Then he took off after that. Seems Mr.Walker might have had a little to much to drink too!!
When the cops caught up with him, he became an “asshole” with them too!!! Not physically, but verbally. WE all know what happened after that.
He will pay the price twice, with the judicial system and Barstow PD.
The only strange thing about all this is the numerous newpaper articles on this incident, when so many other MAJOR issues pop up that you don’t hear about.

I think you were right the first time ACU. According to the newspaper it is Jimmie Walker, not Williams. I stand corrected, but the guys I talked to still don’t know him.
Is there any irony to the fact that a guy named after the very funny black comedian, Jimmie Walker from the hit TV show Good Times, would be dropping the “N” bomb? Makes me laugh just a little.

This story is a good example of what is wrong with this blog. Whoever runs this thing has got some bad informants because this whole story is wrong. I know many of the sharks very well. They are not a gang as the idiot who wrote this says. They simply have a station tattoo very similar to unit tattoos in the military. It is very interesting that you would say they are racist when you don’t one scrap of evidence or even know these people. I know most of them and there are black sharks, white sharks and brown sharks. It is easy to slime someone when you don’t even know them.
Station tattoos are common on the department even though the department does not like them. There are station tattoos at the river station, Central station, Fontana station, Rancho station, Highland station and even swat tattoos. This is only a big deal to those people over 35 or who have not served in the military. Almost everyone I know that works for a police department get department tattoos.
Some of the sharks have been in trouble with the department, this is true. But no more than you would see per capita with the rest of the department. They have been investigated by the department and the department has always come up with nothing. That is because these guys are very good cops. Not all of them but most of them. They have become a legend on the department because of false rumors and persecution by the department. They receive more scrutiny then the regular deputy.
The sharks I know have no knowledge of this PD officer. Why would they. They don’t even belong to the same department.
This blog just proves you can get slimmed as a bad cop even when you are not. The writer and informant are cowards and have no shame.
I always say that it is easy to tell when I’ve hit a nerve. And I hit a nerve for a second time by even mentioning the Sharks.
When I first proposed writing about them some months ago, I immediately had phone calls from not one, but two, of the five supervisorial offices of the Board of Supervisors. I was warned to be careful and one strongly suggested that I not write about them as it might not be healthy. I also received I believe no less than six calls/emails from current or past members of the SBSD also suggesting that the subject matter could be dangerous. I was given lectures on leap-frog surveillance, being sure I kept my doors locked, keeping at least two of the dogs in the house with me at all times, checking my surroundings whenever I’m out and about, etc.
Even you supporters who write about the Sharks aren’t painting a picture that goes over too well with the average member of the public. This doesn’t sound cool at all. If nothing else, they sound like a bunch of sheriff’s renegades or Rambos.
I actually received new information on the subject today, but I’m waiting on a little more verification before I write the real story.
I’ve been told High Tech Crimes is monitoring me, so I guess we will be giving them a workout.
Is that the same Sgt (John Emmons), that was launched out of the narcotics division and off of the SWAT team for shooting at some poor old man driving a vehicle, that he stepped in front of while in civilian clothes because he violated common sense and policy? Isn’t he assigned to the Victorville Station with Perez and Elvert. Is he the one whom got promoted by all of his drunken volunteer work at the sheriff’s rodeo? He was listed with the high few at Victorville, yes, Elvert, Perez, but he has been reassinged to the training division at EVOC. John wasn’t making too many friends at Victorville and he was told to find a new home. As far as everything you listed about him, I have heard the same stories.

As far as the sharks go, most are good dudes, good cops and hard workers. Some have tarnished the badge. A few have done some really stupid things. That is true. But in all honesty and fairness to those guys , not at any a higher rate or frequency than those who don’t belong to the “club.” As a matter of fact, their “got in trouble for stupid sh*&” rate is pretty low considering how many there are. But when they do, they go big!
I can think of plenty of them I wouldn’t leave my wife around. But none I wouldn’t breathe a sigh of relief, if I was fighting off the Indians and I heard them say, 17P whatever going 97. That is as honest as I can be.

Ask Rod yourself because he has personally received a couple of emails from me where bloggers have made threats against current and/or former Sheriff’s Department personnel. There is no reason for HTC to investigate me if they feel someone has committed a crime as all they have to do is call me and I will give them the information with no subpoena or search warrant.

Just Curious, I have heard the manner in which the two groups were singled out and labeled were very similar indeed. As a matter of fact I was led to believe that the driving force behind slimming both groups was the same large headed fat guy that abuses his own county ride and is still in charge, but that is just hearsay. Also another interesting fact that I am told of is that the guy who tagged the “Mexican Mafia” with that illustrious handle was the subject of a very personal issue on this very site, and was in fact out worked by several of those guys in Fontana who just happened to be Hispanic. As a result a tradition (the Fontana Diamond pin) and station symbol, which was earned after a year of service, the certificate, awarded and signed by the station Commander, and any form thereof is forbiden to be worn, displayed or referred to. Another item of interest is the now Sgt, former background investigator, referred to as a puffer fish, was assigned to employee resources, his inept ass couldn’t investigate a 314 at a bookstore. No wonder shit gets sideways.

The turd in the SBSD punchbowl the last several years was Rich Beemer. As a guy who would never be invited to join a group of any type, his personal mission was to screw with the street warriors. His management style even emasculated his own command staff. The chiefs couldn’t even fart without asking Beemer for permission. The department can jump for joy, knowing that at least one large headed fat guy is gone.

Every reason to believe they were tagged and the evidence against them was embellished on by the greatest Internal Affairs investigator that ever walked Rick Roelle.
And more because they were “sharks”, than because they did anything wrong. Because the “fat headed guy”, said so.
Except those two Sergeants who forgot more about investigations and report writing than Rick Roelle would ever know, picked that report apart from the start to the end.
One Sergeant found more errors in that investigation than one could imagine and brought those errors to the attention of his SEBA attorney.
The investigation was so bad, the case had to be delayed a couple months while it was completely re-written so it could go forward to the Board of Chiefs.
NO THANKS to SEBA attorney William Hadden who ignored his clients wishes to bring forth such a terrible report before the Civil Service Commission.
The SEBA attorney working in cahoots with the other “fat headed guy” in charge of SEBA decided to give the other side an opportunity to get their act together and allow the “fat headed guy” to continue with his agenda against the two Sergeants.
Of course Rick Roelle got another pass for piss poor work performance, but the SEBA attorney thought helping Roelle or not making the “fat headed guy” look bad was more important than helping out his clients.
Every reason to believe that when the “fat headed guy” brought these two Sergeants down town to dress them down about the “shark” perception, they might have spoke up and defended themselves which is a BIG NO NO with the “fat headed guy”.
So as some of us know, the “fat headed guy” just waited and when this scandal broke, gave direction as he has countless times to “make it happen”.
So who ever said the Board of Chiefs did not pass wind without permission from the “fat headed guy” was spot on.
There was another case shortly after that where it was confirmed the Chiefs DO NOT make decisions without the blessings from the “fat headed guy”.

Mr ACU, nice work! You forgot to mention that those two sergeants were perhaps two of the best cops this department has ever known, no better a cop,partner,leader in both of those guys. They got screwed for believing in something more than themselves, not so much the shark thing, as much as they believed in the organization and serving the people of this county by putting bad people behind bars. They have had the opportunity to change some of the things that the “Fat headed guy” did but they have chose not to.
You still have selective disciplines in the department. If the board of chiefs wants you IA gets the go ahead to do whatever it takes to get you.
And you are correct the report on the two Sgts from Victorville was so bad they had to redo the whole thing. There were lies in the report and what did they do to the person who prepared it, your right again nothing. This is the second person I know of that has lied and then got promoted to a Lt. YES King you are right about those two Sergeants in everything you say. Both were company men at heart, but BOTH had that shall we say happy medium of working well with the troops and carrying on the company mission.
Some may argue that. I know another Sergeant who was a fellow shark and referred to one of those Sergeants discussed here as a “supervisors worst nightmare”.
I understand he removed his tattoo after the “fat headed guy” did his little rant. Says a lot about his character and courage.
I can only imagine that was said because this Sergeant took care of business RIGHT NOW and did not dick around worrying what the powers to be might think.
What is sad about these two Sergeants is that they and a few other Sergeants over the years who had obtained that happy medium at some point ran into difficulties with folks like “the fat headed guy”.
In my experience someone from above found guys like these disloyal to the company if they did not throw someone under the bus at the behest of who ever.
I heard the other day that the “puffer fish” has had about 72 days off for his stupid antics over the years. But he is still considered to be one of the chosen few. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
The worst part of this story is the politics from SEBA and the lack of representation these guys got, and the free pass that piece of crap Rick Roelle got for his incompetance in that investigation.

So when someone hears Beef “fat head” Abernathie talking about the botherhood, SOMEONE slap that guy because he is telling another lie.

I know many like the “fat headed guy” and a couple of others combined would not make a pimple on these Sergeants fanny on their worst day of working the streets.
The one Sergeant is the only guy I know who took the “white rat”, Bill Zehms to task and won after exposing his crooked ass. HE is my hero on that alone.

On a serious note… I remember the two sergeants, they did get a raw deal out of a piss poor investigation. I have been interviewed by Roelle as a witness in a few personnel matters. If you compared the actual transcript of my interview with the report that was generated by Roelle(which I had the opportunity to do) you would wonder if he actually paid attention during my interview or if he just wrote down what he thought or wanted to hear.
Having worked with the two sergeants that became the fall guys for the department during this “scandal”, I must say that I would proudly work for either of these guys under any condition, any day of the week. Not because they were ‘sharks’ or held the thin blue line, but because they are two of the best cops I ever saw. I saw plenty of cases where they exposed deputies wrong doings and problems and took the appropriate actions… Plain and simple, the department was looking for some fall guys so when the “how could this happen” question surfaced, it all fell on them. I heard that at least one of them got a personal apology from executive staff … I haven’t asked him personaly about it.
Brining up the statement of selective enforcement within the ranks… It happens and it is unfair. Someone used the example of Sal’s incident… After shooting up his truck and lying about it, nothing was done. He quietly disappeared with what was rumoured to be a stress/medical retirement. It seems some charges may have been appropriate. I’m definately not for cops getting stiffer sentences or charges, but they should get the same as anyone else. If a crime is done, time is due.
Randy beavers would have been prosecuted if Rod MacDonald hadn’t done such a poor job at investigating and reporting that case. So what happened to him for not doing his job like he should have?-they promoted that moron to Sgt and sent him tot he jail to teach new deputies how to do their jobs. His promotion was a huge FU to those who do work hard and deserve to be promoted.
Oh rag tell me it isn’t so. Someone from that division did a poor investigation. Well thats not the first one yet they sure do not have a problem pointing there fingers at other investigations and investigators.

Walker is not a shark. The whole shark thing got brought up because he had a picture of the VC shark in his phone. The same picture that everyone that has ever worked VC has. Walker didnt get arrested because he beat some dude up, he got arrested because he pissed Kopasz off. Kopasz told Nobles to arrest him for a hate crime, figuring that the DA wouldn’t file and Walker would just get a little deputy time. Well the DA screwed that up and decided to file because all the press. Thats is what really happened.
It really doesn’t matter if Walker was a shark, it does not matter what he had on his phone. Yes it was reported Walker pissed off Kopasz. And the problem is?
Your drunk, got into a fight with someone over whatever, then you talk SMACK to the watch commander and talk to him like he is a fool? WTF do you think is going to happen?
Now if Walker has his ducks in a row he will kick Kopasz azz in court. Let us know lol if that happens. Thus far I have not read or heard anything to suggest that will happen.
Oh I totally agree, it’s never a good idea to piss the Watch Commander off, especialy when you need a favor. I have known Walker for a long time an he is a good dude but sometimes that alcohol gets to you and makes you say some dumb things. I know he regrets it now.
Anonymous shut the hell up. It does matter that he pissed Kopasz off. This goes back to why the we the SBSD is looking so bad. It’s the brass that set the standard for us to follow and the higher ups think that they can do what ever they want. Hot headed Kopasz got pissed and falsely arrested Walker because he could. Walker didn’t get into a fight that night, if you were on scene that night then you would have known that. I’m so tired of our department looking bad in the news because they think they can do whatever they want and now dumbass Kopasz just dragged half our station into his mess. Again if you were there, you would know what i am talking about.
