I received an update on one of the more recent San Bernardino County deputy sheriff arrests. This deputy is a member of the Special Enforcement Division (SED). Perhaps one of you will clarify for me if all SED deputies are what we commonly know as SWAT team members or are there other functions within that division.
iePolitics reported a few days ago that this deputy was arrested for the second time for driving while intoxicated. That is not quite accurate. This is his THIRD incident. Here is the full story:
The first time this deputy was involved in DUI, he had gotten off of work from the Yucaipa station and rolled his vehicle into a ditch while under the influence. A deputy saw him walking down the middle of the street and stopped him. He copped an attitude, stating that the only reason he was being stopped was because he was black along with a few more issues. The responding deputy called Sergeant Onadaro (remember from a previous story he is the Sergeant in Internal Affairs that was caught lying about a ticket for a reserve deputy). Onadaro took this deputy home rather than booking him for DUI. There was no arrest and no charges.
It seems that the deputy who stopped him has a mother that is a sergeant with the department and when she was told how this drunk deputy treated her child, she complained. The DUI deputy received some type of discipline for the way in which he treated a fellow deputy. The DUI was not addressed.
The next incident occurred while the DUI deputy was driving drunk in the city of Highland. The DUI deputy hit curb. Highland patrol deputies responded and they take him home again. So far he has been caught driving drunk twice and never arrested.
The third incident involved the DUI deputy driving, guess what, DUI and strikes another vehicle with minor damage. He is told to stop and wait for the police but refuses and attempts to leave the scene when he hits a second vehicle while attempting to back up. Deputies arrive, and because there are citizens present, they are forced to arrest him.
Once arrested, the DUI deputy refuses to give blood and perform the necessary tests. When told that they are going to do a forced blood draw, he complies.
As my informant said:
First Onadaro is a real fine Sgt. He allows deputies that he likes to violate the law and deputies that he does not like he does Internal investigations on. Then he lies. With this type of baggage he is allowed to work Internal Affairs with Sheriff Hoops’ knowledge. Well Charbie, Grunt and Taylor this stuff is happening on his shift not Penrods so why the same treatment?Second what a fine piece of art work this deputy is. He flames out on his fellow deputies, refuses to do what he expects a regular citizen to do when he arrests them for a drunk charge and is in SED/SWAT. There is no excuse for this at all. He should not be entitled to drive a county vehicle to and from work nor is he entitled to remain in this division. With his track record the jail is to good of a place for him to work. And Hoops and his family of Deputy Chiefs allow people like these two guys to stay in there positions and justify other disciplines.
Now, back to my question of whether or not this deputy is an actual member of the SWAT team. If he is, does anyone besides me see a really big problem with that? And second, SBSD has a ton of clean, high-caliber deputies who would love to be in SED. Why does the department cover for someone who clearly should not be entrusted with such a position while passing over more qualified and better tempered individuals?
How about printing something with a little more substance like the dates and times of these alleged incidents? A lot of what you are posting has no teeth for us to form an opinion on without specific facts to support your claims of these alleged priors. You know, Something like a CAD incident number and call history, which is public information and readily available to the press and public alike, this would be us be useful relaible information which does not dis appear.
Am I missing something or has this guy walked on this?, Please explain how he is being covered for by Hoops?
Or are you just throwing your typical baboon crap from the zoo cage as usual?
I am pretty sure the guy that your speaking of in this incident is a man, and therefore ready to stand up and take it on the chin, and accept responsibility for his sins.
If he is an alleged three striker will he be granted an administratorship like ACU. or will he be required to throw a tantrum and behave like your informants before being anointed by the IE Politics staff.
i just wrote out a check to the California Professional Firefighters for $35.00…this year when the Sheriff’s Dept calls …guess how much I’m gonna send them…..
I think a name of the violator would enhance the story and get the word out. I would like to know.
The Sheriff’s department doesn’t make those type of calls…. Thanks anyway.
i get calls every year about the rodeo…..
Grunt you are kidding correct. Dates and times with reports and CAD incidents? Walk up to the second floor and ask Deputy Chief Cochran what happened to his CAD incident and criminal report regarding his domestic violence issue. Once you find them then may be the others can be produced.
No I am not, and I remember the cad INC # very well.
Grunt,
When cornered you and Charbie always go on the attack against ACU, me or blog, rather than address the real issues. You know who these deputies are just like everyone else in the SD knows who they are. That stuff gets around faster than Superman.
Here are two questions I would like straight answers on from both you and Charbie:
1. Should ANY deputy with an alcohol/drug problem and/or anger management problem, or a history thereof, be allowed on the SWAT team? Yes or No
2. Should ANY deputy who has been caught lying in an official capacity, i.e., on the witness stand, in a report, in an internal investigation, etc., be allowed to work in Internal Affairs? Yes or No
I’m betting neither one of you will give me a straight answer.
So Grunt you remember the CAD incident number. So then what you are saying is that it is true that a Deputy Chief was involved in a domestic violence issue and then was promoted by Hoops to his current position. Do you see anything wrong with this? Let me guess Hoops was unaware of this incident so he can not be held responsible for what he did.
Administrator,
Show me with a red crayon just exactly where I have been cornered? I must be too simple to see it for myself.
My personal opinion is No to both questions.
That said, I still think it’s BullS**T that you cast innuendo and shade the rest of us in the crappy light you do. If you show us proof of these alleged priors, and confirm your allegations with more than your word, I would be persuaded to agree with what it is you publish.
This is my Department as much as it is Hoops, the executive staff or any Deputy Sheriff. I work here, I believe in what I do and the people I do it with. Good, bad, or otherwise, they do a job you and many others wish, pretend, or refuse to do. It’s called institutional loyalty. I have pride in my Department and my Country. If you have never felt pride or loyalty, it is truly a shame. Especially in a profession of arms.
You have a first amendment right to a freedom of speech and use it (obviously). I also have the same right. I will use my right to refute or ask questions of you or your purveyors of truth and justice, when I think you or your people are distributing incomplete information at the expense of the rest of us serving deputies. Do you really think you are causing anyone agony? If you do you bumped your head. Like I said to ACU before, be accurate and I stay quiet.
Truth I think it is wrong for people to act as if they walk on water.
Grunt,
So the guy you arrested today for armed robbery, is he a bad guy because you arrested him or because he committed a crime?
What kind of question is that?
I think the guy I arrest for armed robbery is an armed robber. As is the guy that gets a speeding ticket, he’s a speeder. They both have to answer for it to the system, not to me.
Grunt who claims that they walk on water. I hope that I have not refered to that.
I can honestly say, I have NEVER felt hate for a suspect. They get what they get thats it…the old saying, it is what it is…I might have thought a guy or gal was a bitch or an asshole but as far as hating on a suspect…why would I? I get to go home at the end of the day!
Sharon the simplistic answer to both of your questions is NO, purely black and white. But if a deputy or general employee exercises bad judgement and breaks the law, DUI, is the Department suppose to throw the employee away like a spent condom? Is there no redemption? Should not the Department try to redeem their employee?
I am fully aware that they are some folks that aren’t going to get it no matter what assistance they receive. And in those cases, when their behaivor interferes with their job performance, then the Department needs to move swiftly to remove those employees from doing harm. I have been assigned to SED for just over 18 months and I have not witnessed flawed or compromised performance from either one of my SED brothers. They are true meat-eating members of SED and their crime fighting skills are an asset to the Division. When the call goes out they are there ready for duty.
Sharon are you a finder of facts and do you want to be a purveyor of truth, or are you purely resigned to being a pusher of gossip and half-truths? Check with yor snitches, get dates, get names, and do your investigative reporting homework. Make a pitch for the call history for the dates your snitches have provided, and then print/blog your story.
I get the feeling you are a Postmus supporter since he escapes your criticisms. How does his alleged drug use strike you? If he is found to have a methamphetamine addiction are you going to throw him away like a spent condom, or do you want to see him redeemed?
John,
In answer to your last question, Bill is a friend. I can say with absolute certainty that Bill knows exactly what I think of his drug usage and he knows I feel he should be in treatment now rather than wait for PC1000. I understand his argument and that is with all the court dates surrounding everything it is hard to be in treatment too.
The difference between Bill and a sheriff’s deputy is that Bill does not carry a gun and badge and does not have the potential to kill someone on every call.
Something you and Grunt don’t seem to get is often we have a lot more information than we put on the blog. We have had a few readers demand names of the some of these deputies who have committed crimes of late and for the most part I will not print them. And that is because the point of the blog is not about the deputy who makes a single mistake. It is about the deputy who keeps screwing up or the deputy who brass covers for, or for that matter, the member of management who uses his position to abuse others or his authority or the law.
Yes Sharon but your buddy Postmus doesn’t need a badge or gun to wreak havoc with the taxpayers and citizens of this County. He had unlimited political power and influence. When he added that to his fondness for smoking bowls full of meth the citizens of this County got far worse. Is that how you explain hiring an unqualified person to be assistant assessor and citing that person is qualified because he is one of the youngest managers for Outback Steakhouse? I can’t stand on that 100%, but I believe I read that in the good ol’ SB Sun. Now he gets arrested at court for being 11-5-fifty. I wish the man no ill will and I hope he or his friends/family can get him to see the errors in his ways. He held the keys to County.
If you have real life examples of rogue deputies cite them. We can all deal with “what-ifs”, but we need to focus on realities. You have no problem blowing up deputies by name if their mom or dad happens to be a SGT or above. And you have no problem with providing all the salacious details. And when you write about your friend Postmus you talk how he should seek treatment, but he can’t because he has so many court appearances. Why do you make excuses for him and choose to blow up deputies. How is his behaivor any different? I’m just saying…
Good point John!! Same reason I guess Ramos, Penrod and Hoops cover for each other in their criminal misdeeds of the past and present, friendship??? Must be friendship or big money down the road. Not sure. Guess we could write that off as just politics too!!!
Your person enough to admit to bad things happening. Sharon says Postmus has a problem with his dope habit. No arguing that.
Postmus’s explanation about his court appearances interfering with his drug treatment is just a doper excuse to continue using, NOTHING more.
Postmus was eventually removed from his position as he should have been, as we both know much sooner, and just not for the dope issue. Just as those Deputies working special details should be removed if they can’t keep a lid on their drinking.
Myself he is a lost cause and I think both of us know what havoc dopers can do within their own circle. Postmus has nothing coming.
Either does Supervisor Biane’s alcohol escapades that are well known to many. What do they call that conduct, bringing descredit to the County???
I think we both know that SBSD does not seem to have any programs in place to send the alcohol abusers to and assist them in either drying out or hitting the road. If they do, awesome.
Sergeant Pat Cavenaugh is a prime example. Kicked out of Homicide detail because he is under the influence of alcohol at work. They send him to Victorville. Did that take care of the problem? NO. It just got worse.
He came to work under the influence, slept at work, drove the unit to an IA interview DUI!!! They put him at the Adelanto jail pending his disciplinary issues.
A VERY long and well known problem that exsisted. Was he ever sent to rehab before they threw him under the bus?? I don’t know, I sure hope so.
Your earlier comments about helping some of these employees is spot on. THE QUESTION is, is SBSD doing that??
Tell us a story or confirm for us that such a program exsists??
Deputies driving DUI and those around them know they have a drinking problem should be stepping up to the plate. MOST do not.
Most Deputies are not thrown under the bus unless they are disliked by somone in power for DUI.
It sure doesn’t look good though when one gets busted by WHOEVER and then is promoted or transfered to a choice assignment shortly there after.
AND it is even worse when someone is harrassed for arresting someone for driving DUI or counseled and told NOT to be so black and white. Then watch that same commander or supervisor scramble to hide when things happen. So much for listening to your boss.
And that does not just pertain to Sheriff’s employees, that includes certain people in the community and friends and family members of cops and politicians too. YOUR right we should not just throw a Deputy under the bus, we should include a long list of friends and relatives.
Glad your around to put some things in perspective because we do get blinded by friendship!!!!
ok lets gets thinks straight. charbie, you should now better than to post comments back and forth about work related issues. ur work should be keeping you busy enough to stay off the internet. i know u have a big head, but i think that when people told you that, they meant you “physically” have a big dome, not that your smart. stop blogging about work related issues. your gunna ruin your carrer. stop sticking up for snyder. come on dude. its a fact, hes a drunk, bottom line. here is the scary part; when he kills someone in his little county van after leaving a friday night poker party and hes duece, or he gets killed himself, two things are gunna potentially happen, either the family will sue the SO because its failure to deal with a liability, or snyders family will sue (a second time) because the SO failed to deal with the same liabily!!!! who gives a shit if he resonds to a call out in a timely manner charbie, wouldnt you if you felt like you were about to be disciplined?. its called guilt dude. HEY, SOME CARRER ADVICE, DONT STICK YOUR NECK OUT FOR A DUMBASS. Mabry needs more attention anyway:)
