Attention San Bernardino County Webmaster: You guys suck! Ya know, I know how to maneuver around the county’s website and I get frustrated and confused. I can only imagine how the average citizen feels trying to find information they are looking for online.
Case in point: A few weeks ago there was an article about a new group formed called the Inland Empire Destination Council. This council’s purpose is to promote San Bernardino County for something besides corruption. They started their own website and blog, which I find very humorous because iePolitics and InlandPolitics will always receive more hits and have a higher SEO ranking than anything positive the county puts out. But I digress.
So now that my blogroll is back, I decided to add this new blog to the blogroll. Well, the story in the Sun/Redland Daily Facts/ Inland Valley Daily Bulletin has been deleted and I could not remember the URL of the site. I tried to find information about the site on at www.sbcounty.gov. Logical, right? Wrong!
There were no press releases or anything else I could find on the home page. I tried looking under “Economic Development Agency.” Again there was nothing about the new council. But there was a section about newspaper articles. The last newspaper article added to the site was from November 27, 2006. We have had no economic development since 2006? I guess now we know why things suck so badly in this county.
Next I tried “tourism” which led me back to the same page. I finally gave up and tried Yahoo! again. After a little searching, I found the site! Yeah! It is www.discoverie.com. I’m not saying it is not located anywhere on the County’s website, but I could not find it there. You would think there should be a link on the front page.
When you look at that URL, don’t you think someone just doesn’t know how to spell? I had to do a double take before I realized it wasn’t “discovery” misspelled but rather “discover the inland empire.” But I digress once again.
At the bottom of the site is a link to their blog. There hasn’t been an entry since July 16 and there have been only three entries altogether since June 25. After all the press the site received a few weeks ago, you would think the county/council would try to keep it updated. Or there simply isn’t anything positive to write about in San Bernardino County.
Now I’m being facetious because this county has a lot to offer in terms of tourism. But you would never know it. Anyway Greg and company, don’t bother to thank me for all the hits you are going to get because iePolitics wrote a story and put a link up. Nobody reads this blog. Just ask any one of you.
Wow, that was the most incoherent and rambling article I have read in a while. I hope you do better for those who are paying for your services.
