iePolitics: Paul Schrader for Sheriff

www.sheriffpaul.net

There has been a cloud of corruption over the San Bernardino County government for the past decade. So much corruption that even elected officials who have not been involved in any scandals are viewed with suspicion by the citizens of San Bernardino County.

My goal is to give the citizens of San Bernardino County something that is desperately needed; A Fresh Start. That start begins with concerned, responsive elected officials. A Fresh Start with innovative plans and solutions to the challenges we face. Fresh, proactive leadership that will restore faith, hope, and the belief that a better future for our families and our children is not only possible, but is something we can accomplish together. No longer will the citizens of San Bernardino be barred from participating in the design of our future, your voices silenced or unheard. I pledge to you that there will be a Fresh Start in law enforcement, that you will be a part of it, your voice will be heard. Continue reading

iePolitics: The Race for Sheriff

There are three candidates running for the office of San Bernardino Sheriff/Coroner, all of whom are Republicans.  Current Sheriff Rod Hoops was appointed by the Board of Supervisors last year to replace retiring Sheriff Gary Penrod.  San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff Mark Averbeck was the first to challenge his boss for the top spot.  And Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff Paul Schrader is also vying for the top cop position.

To a degree, this was one of the toughest races for me to make a decision about and that may surprise regular readers of iePolitics.  I believe all three candidates are good men who want what is best for this county. Continue reading

iePolitics: Frank Guzman for District Attorney

www.frankguzman4da.com

I seek only to be your District Attorney.   I will end the “good old boy” corruption that has undermined the County criminal justice system. I will usher in a new era in San Bernardino County, an era of a professional prosecutor’s office with special allegiances to no one—except the citizens.

The moral and ethical decay that has been pervasive in the office is at an end.  Thieving former Sheriffs will not receive special treatment.  Campaign contributors will not get special badges.  I will not turn a blind eye to any criminal act, regardless of by whom it was perpetrated.  I will minister justice evenhandedly. Fighting political corruption does not happen conveniently in the election cycle.  The sentry must always be on watch. Continue reading

iePolitics: The Race for District Attorney

There are three candidates in this race:  Republican incumbent Mike Ramos, Republican challenger Frank Guzman, and Democratic challenger Bob Conaway.  My vote went with Frank Guzman and here is why.

Anyway who reads this blog could safely assume I would never vote for Mike Ramos, so that leaves Frank Guzman and Bob Conaway.  Either one would make a fine district attorney.  However, I voted for Frank for several reasons. Continue reading

iePolitics: The Race for Auditor/Controller/Tax Collector

As I mentioned in a previous post, I voted for Ensen Mason for Auditor/Controller/Tax Collector.  My primary reason for doing so is the living hell incumbent Larry Walker has put so many county employees through.  He has open taxpayers up to numerous lawsuits, some of which are in the process of being filed.  He has created a hostile work environment for those who have to work under him.

Ensen did not provide me with additional campaign information.  You can visit his website at:  www.ensenmason.com

iePolitics: The Race for Superintendent of Schools

This is the only other race where I voted for an incumbent.  I tried to learn more about Gary Thomas’ challengers but no one in this race would respond.  I did hear Thomas speak twice at Republican Women functions.  Gary is a Republican and a Board of Supervisors appointee.  Schools are one place where I fear the liberal policies of Democrats, so Gary got my vote.  I do not have a campaign statement for him, so I cannot provide additional information except a link to his website:  www.garythomas2010.com

iePolitics: Dennis Draeger for Assessor

www.dennisdraeger.com

San Bernardino County has been humiliated as scandals have rocked our community.  Though the issues are serious, these embarrassing public actions represent a small minority of county employees. Most come to work each day and work hard to do the job the public expects.

Political turmoil enveloped the Assessor’s Office in 2008.  Public confidence and employee morale was at an all time low. The Board of Supervisors unanimously appointed me as Assessor to restore public trust  and stability in the Assessor’s Office.

I started my career 35 years ago in the Assessor’s Office.   In 1978,  I assisted with the implementation of Proposition 13 and fully support how this law protects taxpayers from excessive tax hikes.   I have spent a total of 25 years with the Assessor’s Office and 10 years in the Tax Collector’s Office where I was appointed Assistant Tax Collector to restore confidence by implementing new standards and controls after that office was rocked by corruption. iePolitics: The Race for Assessor

Unlike four years ago when the race for the San Bernardino County Assessor’s office was contentious and expensive, this time around it is a low-key affair.  There are two candidates in the race, the Board of Supervisors-appointed Assessor Dennis Draeger and challenger, retired property appraiser Al Palazzo.

Four years ago I witnessed the San Bernardino Public Employee Association’s PAC interviews with Bill Postmus, Don Williamson and Al Palazzo.  Al was quite the character.  I didn’t know it was possible to get that excited about property appraisal.  He was still a county employee at the time and it was obvious how much he cared about his department. iePolitics: The Primary

I have debated long and hard about writing about my choices in tomorrow’s election.  I wasn’t going to but at the last minute have decided to do so.

Having our support can be a double-edged sword.  However, by this time all the die-hard political fans have voted, or made up their minds, and we wouldn’t sway them one way or another anyway.  The handful of people who would vote against my candidate probably aren’t going to vote anyway. His decisions have been based on a careful analysis of all sides to find common ground. He will bring the same thoughtful process to the Council.

CONSERVATIVE REAGAN REPUBLICAN ANTHONY RILEY UPHOLDS TRADITIONAL VALUES
Hesperia, CA – Conservative Republican businessman Anthony Riley re-asserted today his strong support for traditional family values and his unwavering support for heterosexual marriage.

“I voted for Proposition 8 and I firmly believe that the definition of marriage is strictly between a man and a woman,” stated Riley. “Heterosexual marriage is a cherished societal institution.”

“In regard to taxpayer funded abortion, I do not believe that any circumstance warrants the government paying for any abortion,” said Riley.  “As it is, irresponsible people too often use abortion as a form of birth control.” Continue reading

From the Claremont Insider . . .

Dear Leader: Dynasty Politics

You’d think we’d have had enough of Dynasty Politics to even entertain the idea of Chris Lancaster, son of former Assemblyman Bill Lancaster, running for a seat in California’s 59th Assembly district, a district that stretches from Apple Valley to Acton and includes Claremont. Really. George W. Bush coming after George H. W. Bush, Kim Jong Il succeeding his father Kim Il Sung, and, closer to home Dennis Mountjoy occupying the latest incarnation of his father Dick’s Assembly seat (the good old 59th) for six years. And let’s not forget Papa Doc and Baby Doc (Jarhead) Duvalier in Haiti a generation ago.

Truly, as Marx said, “History repeats itself; first as tragedy then as farce.”

Best we can tell, Chris Lancaster is an empty suit who followed a bit too closely in his father’s footsteps, raised taxes in Covina shortly afer he was elected to the City Council, and was recalled for it. Now he poses as a tax fighter but he’s contributed to many candidates on what is politely called “the other side”–meaning Democrats in this context, or Big Spenders, take your pick.

Some two decades ago, the California Political Almanac pegged Bill Lancaster, Chris’s father, as the “Johnny Lunchbucket” of legislators…content to punch the clock each morning and go home each night.” So maybe that makes Chris Lancaster Johnny Lunchbucket, Jr. Continue reading

iePolitics: Motion Denied

Today San Bernardino Superior Court Judge Duke Rouse denied without prejudice the People’s motion to allow hearsay into evidence in the trial of Rex Gutierrez.  Gutierrez, who is charged with two counts of grand theft, one count of embezzlement, and one count of presenting a false claim.  At the last moment, the People attempted to claim that Rancho Cucamonga businessman Jeff Burum conspired with former Assessor Bill Postmus to hire Gutierrez so that Burum would have him available to him.  None of this was brought up during the preliminary hearing but instead appears to be a ploy to save this prosecution.  However, neither Postmus, Gutierrez or Burum have been charged with this “conspiracy.” Continue reading

iePolitics: ARMC: An Open Letter to Dr. GnanaDev

Dr. GnanaDev,

Rumor has it that you claim you do not understand why you are being attacked.  Well let me tell you all about it from my personal perspective.

I have discussed the issues with some of your colleagues but I also worked at Arrowhead Regional Medical  Center (ARMC) for just over a year.  Much of what I write about I witnessed first hand.

ARMC is a county-operated public hospital.  As such, its primary function in the community is to serve as a safety-net for those who would otherwise have no health care.  Its purpose is not to line your pockets. Continue reading
