I received an email this morning stating that a member of the Board of Directors of the San Bernardino Public Employees Association is claiming that there will be no voting on a change in contract. Rather, whatever the survey results are is what will happen.
On the other hand, another member of the Board of Directors has said that the ballots are already printed eve though the deadline for the surveys has not been reached yet.
The first rumor is hard for me to believe except that a third member of the Board of Directors told me that County Administrative Officer Greg Devereaux will do whatever he wants and the Memorandum of Understanding be damned so SBPEA General Manager Bob Blough and SEBA president Bill Abernathie might just as well go along with it and get the rank and file to do the same.
So Bob Blough, what is going on here?
Yeah SBPEA what’s going on? I heard Scott Ryan was recently promoted. What!! Promotions when the threat of layoff’s loom. No doubt the 50K the PAC gave Ovitt has a lot to do with it.
does it even matter? we’re going to get screwed. here come the layoffs and the bumping. everyone get your ducks in a row.
SBPEA waiting until June 21st to count the ballots makes me think that they know how the dice are going to tumble anyway. Do they already have some sort of deal in place or what? Can SBPEA or anyone change the terms of the contract that is already in place? No one seems to know anything and everyone I speak to has an “I guess we’ll have to wait until after July 1st and see” sort of attitude about this whole situation.
i honestly believe there are going to be layoffs. when i talk to old timers they want their 6%.
The one thing I’ve learned whilst working in the employ of the county of San Bernardino is that, you can always count on them to let you down, especially around negotiation time. Never fails!
The sad thing is how SBPEA plays along. Bob Blough is to employee negotiations what Mikey Ramos is to fighting corruption, THEY ARE BOTH A SCAM. SBPEA membership needs a vote of confidence/ NO CONFIDENCE in The Chicken Blough before the Association gets around to counting the ballots from this obviously FIXED PROCESS.
STRIKE…..STRIKE…..STRIKE…..screw everyone lets shut the county down
I am losing my job after 16 years with the county. My last day is probably June 30th and my work is now being given to my supervisor who is farming it out to attorneys who make 3 times as much money as I do. What I do is kind of specialized and I know the law inside and out and upside and down. Attorneys ask me questions. Now they get to do what I do along with the thousands of other things they already have to do. This, my friends, is to balance the budget! Good job PD Administration! Make those tough decisions that don’t make any sense whatsoever! Thanks for ruining my life and thanks SBPEA for letting it happen. I loved my job. I did a good job. I won’t ever make the mistake to go above and beyond for a job ever again (I hope).

I’m sorry to hear this; are you being laid off?
With close to 30 years with the county, I’m seriously considering bailing out.
I wish you the best.
Thanks Beaufort. I wish I could retire. I had everything planned – work 8 more years, my house would be paid off and then I could retire fairly comfortably. I’m in renal failure too so losing my health insurance is going to be rough.
I wish we had a REAL union!
I’m so sorry. Your plan sounds similar to mine. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Greg has already proposed a budget based on the 6% being gone. Of course Arnie may have complicated that more so look for “reorganizations” to make up that difference. I would bet that the only way any SBPEA employee is ever gonna get some action is start an action to impeach the current passle of employee directors and put in some people that will play hard ball.
Strike !
strike!
Cerealmom, can they move you to another position maybe in another department even? Have you talked to HR, I’m sure you have, but to do this to someone with a kidney condition is beyond cruel–if the association won’t help, you might want to contact an attorney. There has to be some vacancy somewhere that they could put you into so you won’t lose your benefits. I would be writing to Gary Ovitt and Josie Gonzales.

Just got your message; I’ll get back to you ASAP (I’m working until late nights/early morning hours). Hang in there kiddo! God bless you…
Are public employees allowed to strike?
I guess we could strike if we wanted but personnally I couldn’t afford to walk off the job and not get paid for it.
We are witnessing the death of organized labor across the country. We need to put a stop to it. A well paid employee is the best economy booster. I am tired of being a wage slave or a 21st century serf.
Remember strength in numbers.
ballots are out and i like how they put the furloughs in there. as a 1.5 hour time bank. I got 8 years and am taking a risk but i’m voting for the 6% F the SBPEA.
I don’t think it matters if the majority of union members for the 6% or not…SBPEA is going to do what the BOS wants and not what its members want anyway.
I really liked the email at the of the day today. if you take the alternative package the county will only eliminate 86 jobs. If you dont approve it we will cut 416 jobs. nice scare tactic. Why isnt IEPolitics covering this thing more? I’m sorry i voted for the 6%. I gotta do what best for me.
