An aggressive social media campaign has considerably upped Paul Schrader’s chances of gaining recognition and support in his efforts to be San Bernardino County’s next sheriff.

The 27-year law enforcement veteran works for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and lives in Fontana. He is joining local sheriff’s Deputy Mark Averbeck in challenging Sheriff Rod Hoops, who was appointed 14 months ago to finish his predecessor’s term. Continue reading

Paul Schrader: Candidate for Sheriff-Coroner, San Bernardino County comments on grand jury requst into possible misconduct by high-ranking officials at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

**************PRESS RELEASE******************
This release is in response to the request for a grand jury probe into possible misconduct by high-ranking officials at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

4/8/2010

From the Headquarters of Paul Schrader, Candidate for Sheriff-Coroner, San Bernardino County.

As part of my fresh start approach to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, it will be my duty to see that the Department is above reproach in order to restore and retain the respect and trust of the public. My first objective is to make all areas of the Department transparent.

In order to bring justice to those wronged and closure to those who have done right, I will have all internal investigations expedited. The community will know the truth, and Deputies will be treated fairly and in accordance with “The Peace Officer’s Bill of Rights”. Continue reading

iePolitics: Updates

Sheriff/DCS:  I received a call today from County Counsel and they will be mailing a response to me.  Also received an email from Deanna Avey-M with the same information.  I will post it when I receive it.  It seems like this is a big deal whether it really is a decision from the Ninth District or an interpretation from the county.  From what it sounds like, children are going to be hurt because of this but we will wait to pass judgment until we get the information.  Nothing from the Sheriff’s Office by the way.  Now there is a surprise.

Foodstamps:  A very nice lady called me within twenty minutes of me submitting the application online.  My telephone interview is Monday.  I will let you all know how that goes.

iePolitics: More on the 59th Assembly District Race

Rather than trying to answer some of the concerns expressed in the comment section in the “The 59th Assembly Race—Which One Do I Believe?” post, I thought I would make it easy on myself and answer here.  First and foremost, I want to stress that I was not accusing Ken Hunter or his campaign manager, John Wurm, of being unethical.  I was suggesting that, as the old saying goes, when you lay down with dogs, you get fleas. iePolitics: So Where Has The Sun Been All of This Time?

The story below on Captain Gray, his wife, and the falsified P.O.S.T. certificates has been on our blog since last year with a heck of a lot more detail than is included in the Sun article.  Although I’m glad Sheriff’s candidate Rick Averbeck was able to get the media interested after months of us trying, it does seem opportunistic. Now that the trial of Rancho Cucamonga City Councilman Rex Gutierrez has been continued to June 1st, focus now shifts to a lesser publicized case with even greater potential to inflict major damage to the professional and political career of San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos.

The trial in question involves former District Attorney Investigator Christopher Cardoza.

As expected, a Superior Court Judge agreed with San Bernardino County prosecutors to delay the trial of Rancho Cucamonga City Councilman Rex Gutierrez this morning.

The trial, which was scheduled to commence Monday morning, addresses charges against Gutierrez alleging time card fraud stemming from Gutierrez’ tenure with the San Bernardino County Assessor’s Office under Bill Postmus.

InlandPolitics: Was there going to be two more John Doe’s?

A source familiar with last years Grand Jury proceedings focusing on the investigation into the Colonies Settlement is alluding that two more names were in play during the proceedings.

Apparently, on the wall of the Grand Jury room where testimony was being taken were enlarged Department of Motor Vehicles photographs of seven individuals.

iePolitics: Sheriff’s Internal Affairs Part 4

At some point before you are released from your interview with IA, you will be ordered not to discuss the investigation with anyone but your lawyer, SEBA representative or your Commander. LOL!!! don’t say anything to your Commander he or she is not going to be your pal in all this.

The Department like any other Law Enforcement agency has a responsibility to the public to investigate mis-conduct and be free from interference from you or anyone else in order to complete that investigation.

It is my position that once that investigation is complete, and you have been given notice of the proposed discipline by the department, their investigation is DONE.  What seems to happen depending on the nature of the charges and who you are, IA will again admonish you to remain silent. iePolitics: The 59th Assembly Race — Which One Do I Believe?

I am friends with a few “experts” in the world of politics and campaigns.  One tells me that Anthony Riley does not stand a chance and the other tells me to now consider Riley the front runner.

I said early on that I don’t have an issue with Anthony despite his connection with the Fourth District.  Actually, other than bitchy Joy Chadwick, Mark Kirk seems to hire decent human beings for his staff.  Anthony does not seem to be an exception.  I met Anthony once at a Central Committee meeting and he seemed quiet and reserved and nice enough.  Continue reading

Mike Morrell: Endorsement

Dick Mountjoy Announces Support for Mike Morrell
“A conservative we can count on.”

Redlands, California – Conservative icon Dick Mountjoy has declared his support for Mike Morrell in the race for the 63rd Assembly District, currently held by Bill Emmerson, who is term-limited.

“More than ever, we need conservative leadership in Sacramento and I believe that Mike Morrell is the kind of leader that we can count on to make tough decisions and fight for our conservative principles,” said Mountjoy. “Mike cares deeply about traditional values and the sanctity of life, he also cares about the direction our state is headed and that is why I am supporting him. I urge all conservatives to join me.” Continue reading

iePolitics: Is Matt Brown a Snitch?

There was a time when I would have texted or called Second District Chief of Staff Matt Brown to ask him about the accusations being made before printing them, but since Jessica Austin has shared with me what Matt has said behind my back, I am no longer going to give him the benefit of the doubt as I did his wife during the Land Use debacle.  So Matt, I’m sure you’ve heard the rumors.  I actually hope they are not true, but it’s time for an answer. iePolitics: Anthony Riley Fundraiser for 59th Assembly District Seat

Anthony Riley, former Supervisor Gary Ovitt staffer and candidate for the 59th Assembly District to replace embattled Assemblyman Anthony Adams, held a fundraiser last night at the home of Dr. Barron Wilson in Apple Valley.  First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt spoke as did Riley.

The event was well attended with about 70 in attendance. Riley has raised about $70,000 for his campaign so far.  Riley’s theme was “no new taxes” and he  slammed Anthony Adams for voting for the largest tax increase in state history.  He pledged he would never support a tax increase and to make the state live within its means. iePolitics: The Uffer Questions

Has anyone read pages 129-137 of the Mark Uffer Claim Against the County?  They can be found here:  Uffer-Document

Pages 129-137 consist of the questions Mark Uffer proposed the Grand Jury ask others, including Supervisor Paul Biane and Chief of Staff Mark Kirk.  Those questions are quite revealing.  The question is, “Are they legitimate?” Continue reading
