iePolitics: The “Appearance” of Conflict

For those of you who are impressed with those in public office or elsewhere who have all these degrees hanging from their walls, and we must include their many years of experience that they often tell us about, think about this.

What University did they attend and what was their grade average for the almighty “common sense”, they are suppose to have learned about?  Ah I forgot for a moment that is something that cannot be taught. Seems you either have it or you don’t.

Scary thought when District Attorney’s, Law Enforcement personnel, and Judges simply have no common sense it already adds to problems with politicians who generally have none what so ever. Some exceptions, but few.

It seems with the recent article in the Sun about Judge Duke Rouse and his obvious failure to tell anyone he worked 14 years with the law firm that is representing Mike Ramos in his sexcapades with an office employee. Richard Marca is Ramos’s personal attorney and good friends with Judge Rouse.

Judge Rouse has no clue on what the Appearance of Conflict is.  I will say how about the “Appearance of Stupid”.  What was Judge Rouse thinking, that if and when the issue came up it was no big deal because HE says so.

This again is just another of many situations that have come up in recents months involving some one who was not thinking outside the box.

It would have been wise and prudent if Judge Rouse had made that announcement and provided that information to the People and the Defense the moment they appeared before him.  It would have saved a lot of time and what will now become some rock throwing by both sides.

Rouse had already denied Erwin’s motion about rescusing the DA from this prosecution, one of those issues was the reported past frienship gone bad between Ramos and Erwin. Now the Judges buddy is representing Ramos, and Ramos is prosecuting his former friend.

  1. Makes you wonder…..the certificates that some from the Sheriff’s department have hanging on there walls and not the most honest certficates. Just ask P.O.S.T. and see what they say.

  2. Over the years I have observed numerous attorneys voluntarily recuse themselves simply due to someone being a social aquaintance and not a “friend”. Why? Because of the “appearance” of conflict. It is not a difficult concept to figur out nor to apply….

  3. Well said everyone.

Jeff and I bet everyone of those attorneys are glad they did, had no worries at that moment, and I am sure none suffered from any rock throwing later.

Amen, Stevie we are seeing it over and over again from our beloved leaders right here in River City.

  4. This judge has made so many errors already that no matter what the results at trial, these case are going down on appeal. They are RAmos’ signature prosecutions. When he fails and he will fail you will see the results of a DA who couldn’t pass the bar exam the first time and an IQ of less than a hundred. It’s too bad that the press has hidden the truth from the public.
