  1. I’m hearing a lot of horror stories from employees regarding Hartford’s procedures, their ability to issue payments timely, and their treatment of employees that are having to deal with them. I’m also getting complaints as to their consistent disregard of what DR.s order. It’s time for other’s to speak up as Sharon is not the only County employee getting shafted by the Hartford.

  2. Sent a letter. Don’t know if it will do any good. I have pasted the text of the email below:

    Good Evening Ms. Barnhart:

I am curious to know why the above referenced person was denied services that her doctor, who is a part of your network, deemed to be necessary? Are you now attempting to place in service a type of insurance where the doctors opinion don’t matter? Or is there another reason your firm would act in such a way.

If this person follows through on her announced intention to commit suicide – well I hope your prepared for the hellstorm that will rain down upon this company. At this time this is a local, at most, regional story – BUT be sure it will go national and viral in an instant if you don’t get people with common sense to review this file.

    Good luck,

  3. These might make for some interesting reading. They are links to the specific BOS agenda items relating to the The Hartford contract. According to the documents, the contract with The Hartford was going to save money and improve service and the bulk of the savings were to come from reallocating the County staff that administered the STD program and the elimination of the contract with work care. I could not find how much the County is paying The Hartford for this service though.

I question if the savings have actually been realized and at what cost? How many other County workers are facing similar circumstances as you, Sharon? How many legitimate claims are denied by The Hartford? How many jobs of San Bernardino County residents were lost or “reallocated” to employees of The Hartford in another state?

Remember, The Hartford is in business to make money and they only make money if they do not have to pay you benefits. The County is in business to provide services to it’s residents.

The County website indicates this benefit is administered by the Employee Benefits and Services Division. Maybe a call or e-mail to the director of that department (who was not specifically referenced on the website) would help.

  4. I talked with a friend at HR today who told me that Hartford is killer if you don’t complete your paperwork like they want it. If you don’t dot an “i” or cross a “t” they will bounce you — well ok that was an example, but you get the point. Sharon you need to have someone look over your paperwork and see if something in the Hartford paperwork was incomplete or incorrect in their views. They look for that stuff so they can bounce you — I’m sure they write their instructions in a complicated and confusing way for the same reason, but I’ve never worked with them so can’t be more specific. Is there someone out there who can help Sharon with that paperwork so she get back on the plan and get her meds?
