This came from the Sheriff’s Department and we have lots of fans within that department so maybe someone can verify or clarify this story:
Here’s another one for you to look at. I do not know for a fact but I have received this information from a reliable source that the maintance supervisor at Sheriff’s headquarters made between $170.000.00 and $200,000.00 last year. He oversee’s approximately 5 employees and he was given a county vehicle as a take home car. They would place one maintance worker on call in case the heater or air conditioner would stop working or some chief’s office did not get dusted right and pay that worker on call pay. The supervisor would then be placed on a call back status in case he needed to come into the office to supervisor that employee. That means that he would receive his pay 24 hours per day 7 days a week. Someone would have to wonder what dirt this guy had on the upper brass to receive this type of treatment. Sometimes it is helpful to open those doors late at night you never know what you will find lurking behind them.
I love the last sentence because I worked there and know exactly what this person is talking about as I experience it first hand. It’s always entertaining to open a door late at night to a vacant office only to find two people trying to get their clothes back on quickly. Oh . . . the stories that could be told. Huh, Beef?
This story is correct and it was the supervisor who was close friends with Penrod and this went on for more than a couple years, county car and all. PRETTY smokin deal if you ask me.
After Penrod retired Undersheriff Beemer stopped that practice and put the supervisor back to his regular salary of about $60k and took away his county car.
As a result of this the supervisor is retiring or will retire soon because he can’t afford to push his broom and mob around anymore for less than $200k a year.
So I ask our readers would Undersheriff Beemer be an enabler to wrong doing? Or is he ok with everyone since he made it stop AFTER Penrod retired?
For anyone who knows I understand this supervisor will be able to calculate his highest years earnings and retire accordingly? I don’t know the formula for the general employees.
This is absurd. Retirement is based off of highest earnings including overtime?
Not overtime.
Q I could be wrong by I think it was on call pay he was receiving?
Yes he can retire at his highest years salary. That is because he was paid as stand by which was his hourly salary 24 X’s 7. This is not consider overtime pay. If it was overtime pay then he could not have claimed it at retirement.
Thanks pals for the confirmation. Like I said a smokin deal for him.
It should piss off a lot of working class folks who won’t get half of that for busting their butts for 20 or 30 years at 40 hours a week.
Again nothing like cheating the system with the permission of the boss.
Yes. Stand-by or on-call pay does count as pensionable income.
What an abuse.
ACU, is this the individual that works up in B of A with the initials JF, Penrod’s long-time buddy who frustrates the rest of us to no end because he simply ignores any facility maintenance requests that come from those without rank? Say it isn’t so! If they’re referring to this guy……….this is just like you said–a slap in the face to all the other hardworkers in the County. The only reason this individual has a job is because he hung on Penrod’s leg his whole time with the Department. Nobody else would keep someone with his work ethics around very long.
ACU, the people who are really pissed off are us self-employed people who work 30-50 years 60 to 70 hours per week and don’t get that kind of pay.
Hey ACU can you calculate how much money the training acadamy fraud cost this county in pay alone that they have let go to sleep and refuse to do anything about.
Just wondering yes that person’s initials are JF. And thanks for the additional information. I am really shocked about the leg hanging allegation, NOT!!!
Good point Steve, I know a few of those folks myself, your right.
Pals I have no way of calculating the TOTAL loss to the County and that one. But I heard two figures mentioned for Captain Gray a lone, $27 or $47k just for him.
Of course you would need to add conspiracy to those charges, would have been an easy one to charge.
I bet the DA could of gotten OVERT acts 1-100 on that one. That too would have made a nice news conference for Ramos and Moonbeam.
Anyone have any doubt about selective enforcement within the County at this point??
ACU is his first name Jack, and his last name end in ton?
Yes it is JF.
Why I am not surprised? As soon as I heard the initials, I naa, can’t be the same individual.
The giveaway was the comment by “Just Wondering” as it was the final clue, and after rereading the other posts here, I just had to ask!
He used to work for Fleet Management and when a new department head was appointed, he shortly afterwards “Retired”.
I had a friend who worked in JF’s office at FM. He told me that JF spend more time doing favors for his friends in the SBSD, then working for the department that paid his paycheck. My friend said the endless telephone calls, and personal visits by high ranking SBSD personnel were unbelievable.
JF was close friends with FB, FT, and GP. In addition, he was a good friend of B. McCormick. The only Sheriff who despised him was Williams.
It was rumored that he could fix tickets issued, and one day my friend pointed out to look on JF’s desk. There sat a ticket, the “court copy” issued by a deputy early that morning, in the AM, for driving without a license, registration, or proof of Insurance.
A quick check on the last name on the ticket, revealed the same last name as a either a Captain, or a Deputy Chief, who must have retired; as his name wasn’t in the current county phonebook, but was listed in previous year’s phonebooks, along with his title.
I made a copy of the ticket, and gave it to a good friend of mine who was a deputy. He showed it to the deputy who wrote it. The ticket issuing deputy said, “Looks like theirs one kid that won’t be going to court”.
The last time I saw JF, was in 2007, at the AM-PM, across from NAFB. He was working security at the airport. He told me that he and Jeff M (BM’s brother), after leaving FM, got jobs at the airport working security. He also told me that since leaving FM, he was working for the SBSD, and was making more money then he knew what to do with. Now the big picture all comes together!
I guess he was double-dipping at night, on call for SBSD, and collecting a paycheck from the airport at the same time!
The final “icing on the cake”, may times I drove by JF’s house, late in the PM, you could see GP’s car parked in front. “They partied together”.
Sarge, Is he the one that bought Gary Huff’s pick-up for the SO motor Pool? I heard that the DAs Office got a search warrant for the SO Headquarters and it really pissed of BP the US.
Why are all of you talking with initials. What is JF, BP, US etc. Just say what you want to say and maybe someone and confirm or deny the stories.
