InlandPolitics.com has learned that incoming San Bernardino County Administrative Officer Greg Devereaux is looking at outside talent for key positions in his new administration.

Which positions are being looked at by Devereaux is not clear, but county supervisors appear to be allowing the incoming chief full authority to manage and get the house in order.

By all accounts Devereaux is doing just that.

It is expected that changes will occur almost immediately after Devereaux arrives on February 15th.

The subject of county finances will be first and foremost on the agenda. Very little action has been taken by county management in resolving a projected $90 million shortfall in the next fiscal year and county supes view the matter as urgent. It is also likely the shortfall will grow as the state attempts to ineffectively deal with its own financial woes.

  1. Devilreaux likes to seek out the negligent and incompetent ’cause they do not challenge his dictatorial style. I think that he should get along just fine with all the mini-me Uffer’s, but will pick them off one-by-one unless they do a mass exodus like the Ontario Redevelopment Agency when he arrived there in the late 90′s.

  2. Well all the directors we have now are just what he is lookign for ,especially those at TAD they are a little puppet show aren’t they

  3. I’m hearing rumors that he wants to do away with flex time. I’ve heard it two ways — that he wants to take flex schedules away from Dept heads, and the other is to take it away from everyone. Anyone heard anything about this?

  4. The department head flex schedule is gone, that is true. we are hearing layoffs are going to be announced any day now. but have not firm source.

  5. If Mr. Devereaux doesn’t look into the HSS administration from Haugan down to the PID director Ms. Lugo and question why the only department in the county that investigates the out of control welfare fraud that cost this county millions of dollars each month, the Fraud Investigation Unit (FIU), is now working with less than 12 investigators (42 in 2003) when the Grand Jury report in 2009 recommended that the then 20 investigators needed to be increased to around 30 investigators, then he will in all of TAD’s line staff workers (hundreds) be seen as the new CAO that is going to allow this crazy Haugan/L ugo injustice against welfare fraud to continue without accountability.
Also during a time when the county is claiming no money for raises Ms. Lugo, the PID director, has within the past few months promoted 15 employees in QRS and PID, created several new positions and is or has filled those new positions and is in the process of hiring 5 to 10 new investigators while making agreements, while being understaffed with investigators, to supply other departments with investigators to work on projects that will not increase or produce any Calworks, Food Stamp, or Child Care frauds.
Mr. Devereaux if you want to find out how much welfare fraud there is in this county ask the case workers, or the investigators, not the administration or management of TAD because they will lie to you. A case worker or fraud investigators knows what is the truth and is willing to express the facts to you if you will listen.

  6. What $90 Million shortfall? You would not know that the way TAD is hiring. It should be interesting soon.
